Labour-force participation among men of prime working age has dropped by more in the US than in any other OECD country apart from Italy in the past quarter century.
The decline has been driven in part by weaker employer demand for people with lower skills, according to a report from President Barack Obamas Council of Economic Advisers.
The study on Monday shed light on one of the major concerns about Americas recovery: while unemployment has been falling, a large number of people have also been dropping out of the jobs market altogether.

A guy used to be able to fall back on manual labor at construction sites carrying bricks or sheetrock or other stuff. Not any more. It might be that the subs are allowed to cheat the Mexicans out of some of their pay and the Americans would not go for that and the subs could make more money. What has the rate of disability done in the countries involved? The number of people in higher education in this age range? The number who are caring for their aging parents? Are older people working at a higher rate than previously? Has the racial make-up and the participation rate of each race changed?

(34,661 posts)This report seemed to be aligned with Janet Yellen's appearance before the Senate Banking Committee this morning. Noticed all the Business Networks were yapping about this. Read this thing twice, looks more like talking points coming from the RNC and the Chamber of Commerce, and the kick off of the Rethug Campaign Season with every thing is President Obama's fault. Still running against the most popular President in modern times, don't think that is a smart idea,of course, the Rethugs have never been smart just corrupt.
