A rural paper's decision on the voice of Harney County

When .. militants took over the .. National Wildlife Refuge, journalists .. descended on rural Harney County ...

But .. one media outlet was absent. The Burns Times-Herald, serving Harney County since 1887, never .. visited the refuge.

The decision was partly logistical. A small paper is hard-pressed to send its lone reporter.. for a long, ongoing story ...

"We knew we did not want to go out there and give this guy (Ammon Bundy) any more attention or leverage ... We were absolutely not going to give him a platform" ...

Great decision. Considering what the Bundy Crowd of Idiots put the people of Harney County through and their wanton destruction of our Refuge, they got far more publicity than they ever deserved, and clearly, they're not done yet. Grant County sheriff Glenn Palmer should be ashamed of his complicity in that debacle. I certainly am ashamed that as a one-time Grant County resident I voted for him, totally fooled as to his mindset, which sadly is very prevalent in that part of Oregon. Harney County residents can be proud of their sheriff and the stand he took during that ugly episode in our state's history, plus the support they received from their newspaper.

Thanks for the post!
