A good read, especially for Black History Month

The Black Count, by Tom Reiss. The father of novelist Alexandre Dumas, who was the son of a black mother and an aristocratic French father, was also a brilliant general in the wars that followed the French Revolution -- and largely forgotten as racism rose in the 19th century.
