Exposed: 'Full Range of Collusion' Between Big Oil and TTIP Trade Reps

New documents underscore 'the corporate nature of the deal and its devastating consequences for climate change'

by Deirdre Fulton, staff writer
Published on Friday, November 27, 2015

Amid warnings that the proposed TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) could undermine global attempts to rein in runaway climate change, new documents reveal that EU trade officials gave U.S. oil giant ExxonMobil access to confidential negotiating strategies considered too sensitive to be released to the European public.

The documents, obtained by the Guardian, offer "an extraordinary glimpse into the full degree of collusion between the European commission and multinational corporations seeking to use TTIP to increase U.S. exports of fossil fuels," said John Hilary, the director of the UK organization War on Want. "The commission is allowing the oil majors to write the proposed energy chapter of TTIP in their favor."

The Guardian explains that the EU is pressing for a guarantee in the enormous "trade" deal that the U.S. will allow free export of oil and gas to Europe—an undertaking that would require a $100 billion infrastructure investment, according to the heavily redacted documents.

In particular, wrote War on Want campaigner Mark Dearn on Friday, "a key aim of TTIP has been to destroy regulations that prevent high-polluting tar sand crude oil from entering Europe."

We need about the generics reducing treachery, now we are finding out details about oil and climate change treachery. Wonder what Obama's payback is? We know he knows better, so there's no excuse other than he was the Trojan Horse president all along.

He really has sold us out and for it he will be the first billion dollar president at the expense of America. Trojan horse or manchurian candidate you can chose, but if this passes America is screwed.

The Repugs will naturally all vote for it and the corporate Dems like DiFi and Schumer will vote for it as well so we have no hope on this one. The corporate give-away is too wide-spread for it not to pass.

... and a few other nasty diseases. Now let us focus on eradicating corporatism. Nothing humanity has ever conceived is as virulent, or has the very real potential to destroy all life on this planet, all so a few irredeemably evil people can enrich themselves at the expense of the rest of us.

We can all do business and prosper without victimizing others. The desire to do so is a mental disease. But we as a species have bred for mindless malice and aggression for ten thousand generations, give or take a millennium, and now the product of this perversion has become a malignant cancer that threatens the existence of us all.

The TPP must NOT be allowed to become law. Period.

The ExxonMobil that knew about climate before the rest of us did and immediately went into a PR campaign of misinformation and disinformation? That ExxonMobil?

If that ExxonMobil is for it, it's bad.

Any politician who takes money from that ExxonMobil is a crook.

Renewable power now and power to the people!

interests of their citizens no longer amount to shit. It has become a fuck you attitude all around.

Now, we have to ask ourselves, just how did we get here?

There was a transformation along the line somewhere. Look at the clues. When did the various governments hand power over to the corporations?

It seems the CIA went to bat for BP clear back in the early 1950s. I bet everyone that favored the Iranians benefiting from their own natural resources was labeled a communist.

But there was a wholesale change here more recently. Now they could care less what we think about it. It's like, "We're gonna burn this oil whether you like it or not, climate be damned."
