"Putin is Defeating More Than ISIS in Syria"

http://journal-neo.org/2015/10/15/putin-is-defeating-more-than-isis-in-syria/

Author F. William Engdahl provides salient quotes from Pres. Putin's speech to the UN General Assembly in September.

Putin states, “instead of learning from other people’s mistakes, some prefer to repeat them and continue to export revolutions, only now these are “democratic” revolutions. Just look at the situation in the Middle East and Northern Africa…problems have been piling up for a long time in this region, and people there wanted change. But what was the actual outcome? Instead of bringing about reforms, aggressive intervention rashly destroyed government institutions and the local way of life. Instead of democracy and progress, there is now violence, poverty, social disasters and total disregard for human rights, including even the right to life.”

Then in a remark addressed to Washington and their NGO Color Revolutions known as the Arab Spring, Putin pointedly asks, “I’m urged to ask those who created this situation: do you at least realize now what you’ve done?"

The last phrase, "Do you at least realize now what you’ve done?" has been oft-repeated to date. Many await an answer from the "Empire of Chaos". Kudos to Pepe Escobar for that descriptive term.

Don't just expect us to all simply join in your Ten Minute Hate. "Russia, Bad!" isn't proof - it isn't even an argument.

THINK! Analyze and corroborate from various sources. Determine, over time, what makes sense and what's congruent with what you know about how the world operates. Have confidence in your own ability to separate the wheat from the chaff and to adjust your thinking as new information becomes available. Ask questions, including the most important one, "who benefits?".

Surely, no DUer believes one should only read or discuss information unless it's first approved by DU. That would be a most curious stance to take for people who consider themselves independent thinkers.

Assad is Russia's ONLY ally in the U.S. His hopes to weaken anti-Assad rebels while the U.S and allies go after ISIS. His only goal is keep Assad in power long enough to force a negotiated settlement that keeps Assad in power. But ras-Putin will have to commit a lot more ground troops and aircraft to accomplish that goal. Meanwhile, he's outdoing even the U.S. at bombing hospitals and civilians. While lying about going after ISIS. What a putz.
