Confederate and treasonous

The whole point ..was to inspire those .. shooting at and attempting to kill the soldiers, sailors, and Marines of the American government ... An analysis of the nature of the conduct of those who fought under the Confederate flag should begin with the U.S. Constitution. It provides in section 3 of Article III: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” By any definition of “levying war," it includes fighting as part of a military force against .. the United States government. Thus the Confederate troops who fought under the Confederate flag were engaged in treason ...
