Tales From the Kitchen Table
This is one of the best articles I've yet read about the uproar over an Obama administration rule that would require Catholic universities and hospitals to cover contraceptives in their health care plans. Enjoy!

When I was first married, my mother-in-law sat down at her kitchen table and told me about the day she went to confession and told the priest that she and her husband were using birth control. She had several young children, times were difficult really, she could have produced a list of reasons longer than your arm.
Youre no better than a whore on the street, said the priest.
This was, as I said, a long time ago. Its just an explanation of why the bishops are not the only Roman Catholics who are touchy about the issue of contraception.

(26,219 posts)Its simple, IMO.
If Catholics don't want to use birth control, don't.
But as long as they are tax exempt (AND receive government funds) then they are under the Government's eye when it comes to employee relations. If they want to form a Catholic theocracy and force everyone under their purview to live under their rules, then form it and move somewhere where they can be fully responsible for it and all that choose to live under it.

(111,267 posts)instead of pushing its dogma into politics, it's going to have to learn that from the IRS.
There's a line in this country churches can't cross and they have crossed it again and again.
They need to be slapped down and reminded what is Caesar's and what is theirs.
