(but, we are told, there is NO war on women!!!)

Father & Daughter Team Up To Block One Of The Most Restrictive Abortion Bans Yet

A new Kansas law that basically bans second trimester abortions, is set to take effect in July. Republican Governor Brownback signed the law in April, but there is a new hitch. A father-daughter doctor team, Dr. Herbert Hodes and his daughter, Dr. Traci Nauser, who run one of three abortion providers in Kansas, have filed a lawsuit stating:

The ban "will undermine their patients' rights to be free from unnecessary medical procedures and to make medical decisions, in conjunction with their physicians, that are in their best interests."

According to David Bailey with Reuters, Republican Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt claims he will vigorously defend the ban on dilation and evacuation procedures (known as D and E) procedure—thus effectively banning abortion as early as 14 weeks post-fertilization. According to Guttmacher Institute, this type of abortion is uncommon, since 90% of abortions take place in the first trimester.

Nancy Northup, president and chief executive officer of the Center for Reproductive Rights, said the center was confident a court would block the law from taking effect. "This is yet another in a relentless barrage of attacks to block women's access to constitutionally protected abortion services."Northup adds: "The ultimate goal of those behind this law is to criminalize abortion services, one by one, until women are left with absolutely no safe or legal options."

Since the beginning of the year, there has been a nonstop effort by Republicans, who own the 'super majority' in many state legislative Houses, to control women. According to Guttmacher Institute:
By the end of the first quarter of the year, legislators had introduced 791 provisions related to sexual and reproductive health and rights. Nearly 42% of these provisions (332 provisions) seek to restrict access to abortion services; abortion restrictions have been introduced in 43 states. By April 1, 53 abortion restrictions had been approved by a legislative chamber, and nine had been enacted.

*********In May, a Texas Republican lawmaker shocked the country by introducing an amendment that would force pregnant women to carry non-viable/brain dead fetuses to full term.********

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say four family members have been arrested after a 14-year-old girl impregnated by a relative was beaten in order to induce an abortion two years ago.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the four people were arrested Tuesday on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity. They remained in Dallas County jail on Wednesday on $150,000 bond.

The hours-long attack allegedly occurred in 2013, but the girl only went to police last month. The girl said the baby was stillborn a couple hours after the beating.

Even here at DU, response to these attacks on women--and all other hate-based crimes against women--is tepid.

Always has been.

Block gay marriage, be a racist, harm kids or animals, and people certainly notice. The responses are like an avalanche.

But....organized efforts among repukes to legislate death/torture/destruction of female lives...meh.
The lack of interest, the lack of solidarity is hard to take.

I don't get it. Why is there such a lack of energy behind demanding personhood for women, protecting our lives?
