Hi-Tech US Corporations Deny Skilled American Workers Jobs Through Abuse of Visa Loophole
http://blog.buzzflash.com/node/13305But there's another insidious way that the high-tech industry denies jobs to US citizens. It's called the H-1B visa, which allows America's technological firms - and other specialized employers - to bring in foreign employees, frequently at a lower wage package than might be paid to an individual with the same qualifications who is an American citizen. There are many arguments against the program, primarily the allegation that there is generally no actual shortage of US citizens with high-tech skills for the work done by H-1B visa holders.
...
Of course, the high-tech companies are telling the White House and Congress that they can't find US citizens for the H-1B jobs, but many critics argue that many high-tech companies hire H-1B workers without even offering the positions to Americans. On top of that, after the H-1B workers are sent back to their native nations, there are reports that they are rehired by US companies abroad to start offshore high-tech offices that move more US jobs overseas. In short, the H-1B visa could be seen as an outsourcing training program at the expense of highly skilled US professionals.

(12,778 posts)The Clintons have reaped significant financial rewards from their relationship with the Indian community, both
in their personal finances and Hillarys campaign fundraising. Hillary Clinton, who is the co-chair of the
Senate India Caucus, has drawn criticism from anti-offshoring groups for her vocal support of Indian business
and unwillingness to protect American jobs. Bill Clinton has invested tens of thousands of dollars in an Indian
bill payment company, while Hillary Clinton has taken tens of thousands from companies that outsource jobs to
India. Workers who have been laid off in upstate New York might not think that her recent joke that she could
be elected to the Senate seat in Punjab is that funny.

(12,778 posts)The Senate India Caucus is a bipartisan group currently comprising forty members of the U.S. Senate. It was founded in 2004 by the then Senator from New York, and now Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and Senator John Cornyn. At the time of its formation, it was the only country-specific Caucus in the Senate and today, is the largest Caucus of its kind in the Senate.

(22,845 posts)Cheap labor in the form of H1-B workers have allowed employers to drive down wages in IT and other industries.
Countless IT workers have been replaced by H1-B visa holders.
Many high school graduates, who would have majored in computer science in college, have turned to other fields of study in the hope of earning enough money to live on while repaying student loans.
It's gotten to the point where entire IT departments at some companies are made up of non-Americans. Some of them have gotten into HR so they can hire more of their fellow foreigners.
It's not the fault of people who need jobs, but I very much blame the corporations for shafting Americans, whose taxes subsidize the corporations' tax breaks.
Any company that screws Americans by manipulating the H1-B loopholes should lose all subsidies and tax breaks.

(8,244 posts)Sorry but Obama and Clinton basically get to define what it means to be a mainstream Democrat.
Not me, and not you as far as I know.
Importing high tech workers is part of the Democrats' policy agenda now.
And there will never never never be a Democratic president who says anything different.
I understand the Republicans are even worse, but when it comes to this issue the Democratic party is standing shoulder to shoulder with the Republicans to screw US workers.
Actually President Obama is leading the charge for importing high tech workers, as evidenced by his remarks in the State of the Union Address.
