DESCRIPTION
Join us for a special evening with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In a passionate and eloquent speech, Kennedy will reflect on the role of natural resources in our work, health and identity as Americans, reminding us of our responsibility to preserve our planet for future generations.
Robert F. Kennedys reputation as a resolute defender of the environment stems from a litany of successful legal actions. He was named one of Time magazines Heroes for the Planet for helping Riverkeeper lead the fight to restore the Hudson River. The groups achievement helped spawn more than 200 Waterkeeper organizations across the globe.
Kennedy has worked on environmental issues across the Americas and has assisted several indigenous tribes in Latin America and Canada in successfully negotiating treaties protecting traditional homelands. The New York City watershed agreement, which Kennedy negotiated on behalf of environmentalists and New York City watershed consumers, is regarded as an international model in stakeholder consensus negotiations and sustainable development.
Kennedy serves as senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, chief prosecuting attorney for Hudson Riverkeeper and president of Waterkeeper Alliance. He is also a clinical professor and supervising attorney at Pace University School of Laws Environmental Litigation Clinic and a co-host of Ring of Fire on Air America Radio. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant district attorney in New York City.
Among Kennedys published books are the New York Times best seller Crimes Against Nature, The Riverkeepers, Judge Frank M. Johnson Jr.: A Biography and two childrens books. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, The Nation, Outside magazine, the Village Voice and anthologies of Americas Best Crime Writing, Best Political Writing and Best Science Writing.
Kennedy is a graduate of Harvard University. He studied at the London School of Economics and received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School. Following graduation, he attended Pace University School of Law, where he was awarded a masters degree in environmental law.
He is a licensed master falconer, and as often as possible pursues a lifelong enthusiasm for white-water paddling.
More than an advocate for the environment, Kennedy is an architect and agent of change. From solar energy to wind power and more, he shows how it is truly possible to become energy-independent while making the world a better place.
