Mother Ruins Harry Potter To Indoctrinate Her Kids Into Conservative Christianity
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/09/18/mother-ruins-harry-potter-to-indoctrinate-her-kids-into-conservative-christianity/Fan-fiction is a fun activity which allows fans of literary works to keep the adventures of their favorite characters alive. In the wrong hands, however, a good work of fiction can turn into a fictional abomination.
Thats what a woman did when she completely re-wrote Harry Potter by turning it into a conservative Christian-obsessed world where the main characters are fighting against the evil forces of Congress led by Voldemort who are allegedly trying to destroy their Christian beliefs. She did this because she thinks her kids will turn into witches if she allows them to read the books as written by author JK Rowling...Even beloved character, Professor Dumbledore, didnt escape getting a complete makeover. Hes been turned into a southern preacher at the re-christened Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles.
So far, six chapters have been written. Here are a few examples of the content youll find via Tickld. Just be warned, if youre a fan of Harry Potter, prepare yourselves for quite a shock.
My father says that dark times are coming, Hermione spoke worriedly. There is a man named Voldomort who wants to destroy all that we stand for. He is pushing an agenda in congress which will stop us from practicing our faith freely.
But that is what our founding fathers built this nation for! Harry cried indignantly. The freedom of religion!
Hagrid beamed widely. He had been praying so hard to save a soul today; and he was so happy to have saved the soul of such a sweet, earnest little one. The poor boy, being raised by two parents who were not Christian; and who both went to work and left him with a babysitter all day long. It was a good thing Hagrid had got here in time. Five years down the road, Harry might have been a fornicating, drug addicted Evolutionist!
A smug-looking young man about Harrys age with slicked-back hair even paler blond than Lunas and wearing a sweater vest and khakis strolled languidly down between the rows of tables.
Please, ignore this fool, Draco drawled smugly. Luna here thinks she can have a career even though shes a woman; and women are stupid.
Harry gaped at this horrible person. What a mean thing to say!
Women shouldnt not have careers because women are stupid! Harry shouted indignantly. Women are not stupid at all! Women should not have careers because women are nurturing and loving and their gifts serve them best in the home!
Yeah, someone seriously wrote this. If you can stomach reading more, just click here: https://m.fanfiction.net/s/10644439
As you can probably tell, this fictional re-write is clearly the work of a conservative Christian. The passages include intolerance toward people of other faiths, a hatred of sex before marriage, and a general frowning down upon women not staying in the home to raise children. It also strongly suggests that evolution is evil and that Voldomort is basically President Obama. The author herself even reveals her paranoia by stating her fears that her children will be led into a life of witchcraft if she lets them reads the actual books....
I WONDER IF JK ROWLING WILL COME DOWN ON THIS ONE...SHE'S VERY TOLERANT, BUT EVEN TOLERANCE HAS LIMITS...

(3,747 posts)Why are all the worst authors conservative and christian? This sounds like a high schooler wrote it (though I've seen better writing from high schoolers). It's sickeningly creepy, authoritarian, right wing garbage.
...really freaking hilarious right wing garbage, that is. So bad it's funny.
I hope the kids can get away from there at some point.

(2,672 posts)I thought it was copy write infringement to use the same characters, names, plot as your own. The post re: Facfics explained it for me. regarding 'functioning synapses'......well, there are way too many who don't have them who will eat this up. plus I just found the bit I saw as nauseating. I guess I'm just too old to find it funny anymore. The crackpots are trying to rewrite history, the bible........I have lost all humor with it. maybe I'll find it again someday.

(3,709 posts)posted on fanfiction.net are not published for profit. Most studios and authors allow fanfiction of any series. There are a few authors... Anne Rice comes to mind among others, who refuse to allow fanfic. Rowling has even though some of the fanfic is NC-17... it gets creepy out there. As long as the writer doesn't try to make money off of their work, it's okay.
However, in this case, while I doubt Rowling will go after her, she should.

The reviews are far more entertaining than the story, IMO. I'm surprised there wasn't spontaneous combustion.
This "author" strikingly resembles Sarah Palin in her inability to accept reality and deal with it, to realize that other people could be correct and she not, etc.

(260 posts)Mostly Sonic the Hedgehog slash fiction and unoriginal Digimon/Pokemon crossovers, but this one takes the cake. She uses exclamation points liberally, everyone is one-dimensional and it presents the classic "God or Evolution" false dichotomy right-wingers can't get over. She's also against birthdays, for some reason, though I don't recall the bible ever saying anything about them.

- Just look at the expression:
"Hello," Harry Potter said intelligently.
"But what about the Constitution?" Dean Thomas questioned articulately.
- Screaming a prayer at the ceiling forces God to make you breakfast.
- "I'll get you for this, Potter! Tonight, after dinner, in the courtyard-we will have a pray-off!"
- Respect women because they already have an owner. Quote: "Too many young men these days pressure young women into things undesired and forbidden. It is the mark of a true, old-fashioned gentleman to respect the fact that every young woman is another man's future wife."
- Gryffindors=Protestants, the heroic guys, the only ones who can save the world from the atheists
"There are dark forces in the world; and they do not like Christians. And when I say Christians; I mean Gryffindor Hats. "
- Slytherins=Catholics, the heretics who worship idols like St. Mary
"And then, of course, is the Slytherin Hats. The Slytherin Hats will tell you we are all on the same side because they agree with Gryffindor Hats on some things. But do not be fooled! Their leader is working with
..Voldemort!"
- Hufflepuffs=liberal Christians, the traitors because they believe some things he atheists believe but still call themselves Christians
"We're really fun and we seem really nice and really tolerant as long as you agree with us!"
- Ravenclaws=extremist Christians
There's a proverb: "It takes a good actor to play a bad actor." And nobody can write this bad unless she's really into writing.
