Perry vows to fight with every fiber
AUSTIN Rick Perry was outraged at the spectacle of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmbergs drunken-driving arrest last year. But he didnt feel that strongly when two other district attorneys faced the same charges under similar circumstances.
In those cases, he said and did nothing.
There were differences, chiefly that Perry had leverage over Lehmberg, whose office contains the state-funded Public Integrity Unit. As the governor builds his defense against felony coercion and abuse of power charges partly around concerns about Lehmbergs behavior, Democrats are pointing to the two previous cases as a sign that the governor had other motives.
The key difference was that one of the DAs was investigating his administration for corruption and the other two DAs werent, said Democratic strategist Jason Stanford.

(51,698 posts)Although the indictment doesnt mention it, the Public Integrity Unit is investigating a scandal involving the $3 billion Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, a fund close to the governors office that suffered from cronyism and lax oversight. The Public Integrity Unit indicted one CPRIT official in December for deceiving his colleagues and awarding an $11 million grant to a Dallas biotech firm without a proper vetting. http://www.texasobserver.org/pundits-dont-get-rick-perry-indictment/

"For those of you whove been sleeping since it happened Friday, Travis County grand jurors indicted Perry on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant. The first count carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years. The second, two to 10. Im no expert on law or math, but I believe those potential sentences each exceed one year."
As of now he can't carry..
