Army says no actions, decision in Bergdahl investigation

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - No actions or decisions have been made in the investigation of Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who was released last year in a prisoner swap with the Taliban after disappearing from his base in Afghanistan in 2009, a U.S. Army spokesman said on Tuesday.

Major General Ronald Lewis, head of public affairs for the U.S. Army, also said in the statement that media reports published earlier on Tuesday about the case "patently false."

NBC News earlier reported that Bergdahl would be charged with desertion, citing senior defense officials.

Right below this on my google news page, it has the Fox false headline that he will be charged.

It's still on the Fox site.

A sad testament to the state of news in America today.

They're not prepared to announce just yet. But from what I've seen, the tippy-top of the Pentagon leaks pretty exclusively to CNN and Wall Street Journal, not to NBC or Fox, so it's possible whoever leaked to Fox/NBC isn't all that "senior" or knowledgeable.

He runs a blog at Foreign Policy, barely writes anything himself. He is a military brass crotch-sniffer, but I think his glory days of getting inside info are mostly over. The White House leaks to David Ignatius at WaPo, but the Pentagon doesn't.

I must have read his timeline wrong

I will say that Jim Miklashevski (not close to spelling I know) at Nbc does get a lot of info but heirs basically their spokesman. No real leaks.

I think the scoops and leaks just depend on who runs the departments and where their favorite reporters are. As far as defense news, Julian Barnes of WSJ gets a lot of scoops, Barbara Starr at CNN does, the NYT often does as well.

if there's incriminating stuff in the investigation that was just completed. That doesn't mean he deserves to totally have the book thrown at him and go to jail, just that there must be some accountability on his part.

this morning after seeing it on NBC News... the headline was up early on Fox and all other right wing sites (because they are so hoping it is true), guess even NBC jumped the gun...

I do hope it doesn't come to a charge of desertion

All the people who accused Bergdahl of deserting are now gushing over the troops after watching American Sniper.

.... of Bergdahl's fate yesterday. From the Washington Times and Fox. I didn't believe one word of it because of the sources. When I heard that NBC had reported the same thing today, I couldn't help but think of CNN's copy-catting FOX so many times and having to admit their error. One should always consider the source.
