With Nebraska Legislature's more conservative bent, voter ID measures face clearer path in ’15

Source: Omaha World Herald

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Legislature’s more conservative cast has given new hope this year to supporters of a bill requiring government-issued photo identification to vote.

But opponents are already promising to filibuster the proposal and, if that fails, mount a legal challenge.

“There will be a vigorous and very long debate, and I will do everything I can to stop it,” said State Sen. Adam Morfeld of Lincoln, who is executive director of the voter advocacy group, Nebraskans for Civic Reform.

Morfeld said he believes opponents have enough votes to block voter ID legislation.

She had a state issued photo ID she used to write checks after dad died. It expired when she started using a check card.

Then when she went to move into HUD assisted housing she had to get a new ID. Because her old ID was expired she had to jump through hoops. Not so easy in your 80's.

Mom and dad got married in 1945. She needed a copy of the wedding certificated to get the new ID. Trouble was it was LOST. The original paper had been converted to micro film. Then converted to digital. Somewhere in that process a contracted worker misfiled the work. A few months later the county found several misfiled documents by total accident including hers. Imagine if they hadn't found them by accident.

Not to mention there is a charge here to get the ID.

It's not as easy as it sounds for a reason.
