If they so request, the twenty children who lost a parent in the attacks in Paris will receive moral and material assistance from the state.
The attacks of January 7, 8 and 9 in Paris left 20 children under 21 orphaned by a father or a mother. As such, the children of victims will be recognized wards of the nation, says Le Figaro Emmanuelle Double, confirming a report by RTL.
The Director of the Office of Solidarity to the National Board of Veterans and War Victims (ONACVG) states that obtaining this status is not automatic; a parent or guardian of the child must make a specific request. 18 year olds can, however, go through the process themselves.
"If they request it, they will be 'adopted' by the state, that is to say, they receive moral support throughout their lives, and financial support to the end of their studies," explains Emmanuelle Double. National ward-of-the-state status thus offers "protection of the Nation complementary to that of the family 'of the child concerned', without transfer of parental authority," she says.
Specifically, the pupils receive financial assistance ranging from a clothing allowance to help with holidays. They also receive special coaching in seeking employment. Besides obtaining specific grants, the pupils can apply for jobs that are reserved for the public service, and fall within the quota of 6% of jobs for disabled workers in companies with more than twenty employees.

Not that I begrudge them any help, but this seems kind of jingoistic. Or something. I'm not sure that's the right word.

Sorry, but this explanation is only in French. (Try Google translation...)

I don't consider this move to be a display of nationalistic fervor (jingoism), but rather a continuance of the initiatives toward "solidarité" and "unité".

Thanks for catching that--I was more concentrated on cleaning up the main part of the text.
GOOGLE translator is good, but far from perfect! LOL!
