Bus union, company reach agreement to avoid Super Bowl strike

Leaders of the Phoenix bus drivers' union and the company that runs the service have reached a contract agreement, eliminating the possibility of a strike that could have affected more than a dozen routes during the Super Bowl.
Union officials and the company reached an agreement early this morning after an all-night negotiation.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said at a press conference Tuesday that he spent the night with the two parties to push them to reach consensus. A strike could have affected tens of thousands of visitors who will need public transportation to reach Super Bowl activities in Phoenix and the employees who will staff them, he said.
Stanton said he was personally passionate about avoiding a strike.
