Report: 1 dead, 1 injured in overpass collapse in Cincinnati

Source: AP

CINCINNATI (AP) — Officials say one person died and another person was injured when a highway overpass collapsed in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Fire Department says the bridge was undergoing demolition at the time of the collapse.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1zsUAS1 ) reports that according to a police dispatch the southbound interstate 75 was closed indefinitely after the collapse of an overpass north of the old Hopple Street bridge.

It happened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday. The newspaper reports at least one tractor trailer was damaged by the collapse.

Many, including those on the left, think an increased gas tax is needed to pay f/ needed infrastructure repairs. With gas prices falling, that may seem good idea, but who thinks Big Oil will let those prices continue? Even Repubs are on board (at least 1 taxphobe calls it 'user fee'). But a gas tax will put more pressure on low- & middle-class drivers. With conservs attacking public transit, personal transport more necessary. Pennsylvania avoided laying some of the burden of numerous fracking truck road damage by increasing PennDOT fees (among other), passing on the damage by increased truck traffic to others. (One reason Corbett got 'fired').

I haven't figured the solution, other than including frackers & pipeline construction traffic in 'user fees,' but trying to raise billions needed w/ gas tax is unequal and unrealistic.

What happened to all that stimulus money that has been passed. I thought all that was for infrastructure and ready shovel jobs or whatever they called it. Billions were given toward it....we need an audit of that money.

All of which accuse Chabot and Bonehead of being unindicted co-conspirators to murder.

The need to address our crumbing bridges has been an issue for decades, systematically blocked by Republican opposition to spending our taxes on infrastructure instead of Halliburton and Blackwater.

Are they saying that road was in use during the demolition? Is that usual? It certainly sounds like a big risk.
