Two men rescued on Lake Erie near Frenchtown Charter Township

According to dispatch, two men, ages 28 and 29, were out on the ice on a four wheeler near Frenchtown Charter Township around 11 a.m. this morning.

Two minutes later, part of the ice broke away from the main land, stranding the two men.

Their four wheeler remains on the ice. Arrangements have been with a local recovery business to retrieve it.

Rescue crews from Frenchtown, Monroe and Estral Beach Fire, Monroe Sheriff's Aviation Unit, as well as the Toledo and Detroit Coast Guards all assisted at the scene.

Moral: don't drive on the ice on a warm day.

Hopefully the vehicle will be rescued before it sinks and adds its gas and oil to Lake Erie.
