Hunts Point Market Workers will not go on strike as workers and management agree on certain terms

Source: NYC News

The largest wholesale produce market in the country may just have averted a strike as the management and workers seem to have struck a provisional agreement for wage contract.

Hunts Point Market in New York supplies about sixty percent of the total produce in the metro area surrounding New York. The strike and the walkout may have led to big trouble for local restaurants as well as the supermarkets as they heavily depend on this huge marketplace for their fresh vegetables and fruit supply.

However, for the time being the market union and the management said that they have a contingency plan.

Teamsters Local 202 which has 1,300 members holds the final say and will go in for a vote on the recent offer on Wednesday. The union says that the merchants in the market have raised the previous wage offer which was not acceptable to the union.
