At least one Hezbollah commander killed in Israeli strike in Syria - sources

Source: Reuters

At least one Lebanese Hezbollah commander was killed on Sunday when an Israeli helicopter fired two missiles in the Syrian province of Quneitra near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, Lebanese sources close to Hezbollah said.

Hezbollah, a Shi'ite Muslim militant and political group, is fighting alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against an insurgency. The group also fought a month-long war with Israel in 2006.

'Israel strike' kills Hezbollah men in Syria's Golan Heights

An Israeli air strike has killed several Hezbollah fighters in the Syrian sector of the Golan Heights, the Lebanese militant movement says.

Hezbollah's al-Manar television said the fighters were killed in Quneitra province "during a field reconnaissance mission". It did not give details.

Israel said it would not comment.

Hezbollah militants have been supporting President Bashar al-Assad. The four-year conflict has left some 76,000 people dead, activists say.

Not that Israel has given a rat's behind about international law anyway, but the civil war in Syria has opened the door for them to jump across the border and take out Hamas and Hezbollah networks at will. I have a feeling this won't be forgotten when Syria comes together again...or when Hamas and Hezbollah regroup.

Israel and Syria have been at war since 1973. Syria has refused to sign a peace agreement.

Their army and navy humiliated.

They're used to cruising off the coast of gaza blasting away at children on the beach, when someone fires back they don't know what to do.

They're lost when someone with training and modern weapons is the opponent. The vaunted IDF can't stand many casualties, that's why they get others to do the heavy lifting and sacrifice blood and treasure for them.

BEIRUT -- An Israeli strike in Syria on Sunday killed the son of a slain top Hezbollah commander and at least five other fighters in a move that could ratchet up tensions with the powerful Lebanese Shiite movement, which recently boasted of rockets that can hit any part of the Jewish state.

Hezbollah militants in towns and villages along the border with Israel went on high alert, said an official from the group. In the Shiite-dominated areas of south Lebanon and Beirut, the streets emptied quickly as residents feared an escalation. Hezbollah-run al-Manar TV warned that Israel was "playing with fire that puts the security of the whole Middle East on edge."

In a statement issued to the media, Hezbollah identified one of the six slain men as Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of Imad Mughniyeh, a top Hezbollah operative assassinated in 2008 in Damascus. Hezbollah blames Israel for the killing and has long vowed to avenge his death.

The dead also included another senior Hezbollah commander, Mohammed Issa, and at least one Iranian national with the group, the statement said.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard general killed in Israeli Syria raid: news site

DUBAI Mon Jan 19, 2015 7:03am EST

(Reuters) - An Iranian Revolutionary Guard general was killed along with a number of fighters from the Lebanese Shi'ite Hezbollah group in an Israeli air strike in Syria, an Iranian news website said on Monday.

"Following the Zionist aggressions against the resistance in Syria, General Mohammad Allahdadi, a former commander of the Sarollah Brigade of the Revolutionary Guard, was martyred along with Jihad Moughniyah and three others in the same car," the Dana news website said, referring to the son of Hezbollah's late military leader Imad Moughniyah.
