Fleetwood Mac forced to end Lincoln show early

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Kevin Coffey

LINCOLN — Fleetwood Mac may sound unstoppable, but the band can be halted.

On Saturday, the classic rock band had to call it a night early when drummer and founding member Mick Fleetwood came down with an unexplained illness.

In front of thousands packed into a sold-out Pinnacle Bank Arena, the band played as long as it could before throwing in the towel.

“Mick is really sick. We don’t know exactly what to do,” Stevie Nicks said, adding that Fleetwood suddenly became ill and was throwing up backstage.

I hope it is just the flu. Marta and I have seen them twice and they do a hell of a show.

Their Rumors album had just come out and they were amazing. Still are.

Hope Mick feels better soon.

BTW, if you are ever in Lahaina (Maui) , go to Mick's bar ("Fleetwood's&quot on Front Street. Order their version of the Mai Tai...delicious and different, with a frothy top. Yum!

going really WAY back to Janis, The Doors, Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, lots of Bruce concerts (now that band could put on such a killer show - amazing), Blue Cheer, Foghat (at a college auditorium - easily in my top 5 best concerts), etc, etc. The Mac was one I never saw, sadly.

And thanks for the Maui tip.

Kinda funny though to include them in a list of bands who kept their classic lineup ... John McVie left a long time back IIRC, Christine left a number of years ago (though she's apparently back ... which is awesome, love her!) ... and the band existed for like 6 years before Buckingham and Nicks even joined ...

You wanna talk about a band who TRULY has kept their 'classic lineup' ... and by that, I mean ... they've ALWAYS been the exact same dudes ... since I was 14 years old ... talk about a certain four lads from Dublin ...

After that, should come Aerosmith (only one album in >40 years that was not the original 5 guys), followed by REM (yes, one member has left, but other than that ... 32 years, same band. However, they are 'retired' ATM ... so maybe they shouldn't count ... but I have a feeling ... Buck/Mills/Stipe are not 'done' entertaining us as a band).

I can't think of any bands that should be named before those three though when it comes to the particular 'category' of continuity. Pearl Jam though is lapping on their heels though, I gotta say ...

(oops, guess I should've read teh article ... which mentions U2 and Aerosmith ... still think REM and Pearl Jam should've come before any of those others ... aside from ZZ Top, of course and Fleetwood Mac? C'mon. I mean, they're not Yes, but ... )

Oh ... yeah ... and stupid me ... WHAT ABOUT RUSH FFS? They actually should be considered a longer-running lineup than U2, by about 10 years, in fact.

Anyways, hope Mick is alright. One of the greats, for sure ... provided a soundtrack to my life in so many era's.

I seriously hope he's ok. This band went through some major drinking/drugs times, so their health may not be the best these days. Plus they're getting up there in years.

Rush? Yuck. Yes? Ditto. Different strokes....

And U2 is on my shit list. The Edge owns tons of property on the Santa Monica coast and wants to build 5 mega-mansions. I guess one for him and the other's to make more money (U2 doesn't have enough)??

Back to Mick, I will send good vibes, for what good that will do. Hopefully, it's just the flu.

Marta and I saw Yes in Omaha back in March of 13. I was into Yes when the Yes album came out long before we dated. Does anyone remember a similar sounding group Flash: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/flash-mn0000152912 I had the In the Can 8 track.

Below seems the must have for any real Yes fan. Friday is my birthday and this is what I asked for.

Yes: Songs from Tsongas Blu-ray Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman, October 1, 2014

Yes, unplugged? You mean the band whose electricity needs for its keyboard battery alone probably rival those of a small European nation? Of course this is said in jest, but the fact is Yes, long considered the paradigm of prog-rock, built a lot of its fascinatingly complex textures with innumerable overdubs and lots (and lots) of electric and/or electronic instruments. While there are still a ton of keyboards on display in this 2004 concert at Tsongas Arena in Massachusetts, things are rather reserved and acoustically oriented for much of the evening. The band was celebrating its 35th anniversary during this tour and this particular concert finds them affable and surprisingly low key. A number of the band's biggest hits sound surprisingly spry in stripped down, more or less acoustic, versions, though odd arrangements (like a kind of bluesy shuffle beat behind Roundabout) may grate on purists' nerves. Jon Anderson's plangent tenor (counter-tenor?) still rings loud and clear, and the filigreed guitar work of Steve Howe sounds great. Rick Wakeman is a little spotty on keys at times, maybe having an off night, but Chris Squire and Alan White keep the rhythm section percolating along quite nicely.

Video grabbed from the yes site: http://www.yesworld.com/

Back to the reviw. Snip: I've been a huge Yes fan since I was a kid, and I personally loved the sometimes odd arrangements on display during this concert. Others who want "their" good old Yes may not be so agreeable about the revisions heard here. That said, there's no arguing the band for the most part sounds great (only Wakeman seems kind of off), and Anderson's voice is as facile and magnetic as ever. While the video leaves a bit to be desired, audio is top notch. Recommended.

Other than sitting in the nose bleed section .. which is not worth it, tickets are going for the $200.00 dollar range.(that's reasonable seating .. many tickets go for $600. to $1000) I guess only old rich hippsters can see them. That's always the case. I remember concert tickets use to cost under $20 bucks. So many middle men now I suppose. Fleetwood and the bunch are not spring chickens any more. I would love to see them just one last time. I have this feeling Stevie can't hit the high notes anymore. That happens to all these rock stars after years of singing. Just the same they bring back so many memories.
