Obama: 'Angry' if Secret Service allegations true

CARTAGENA, Colombia (AP) - President Barack Obama, speaking for the first time about allegations that Secret Service agents hired prostitutes, said Sunday that "of course I'll be angry" if those accusations are proven true by an investigation.
Obama said the agents represent the United States and are supposed to conduct themselves with the highest levels of dignity anywhere in the world. "Obviously, what's been reported doesn't match up to those standards," Obama said in a news conference wrapping his appearance at a Latin America summit.
The president never directly mentioned that the specific accusations, confirmed by media outlets, that agents were cavorting with prostitutes before the president arrived in Colombia.
The Secret Service sent 11 agents home and placed them on leave for misconduct as the agency reviews what happened.

(24,412 posts)is that prior to this trip, there were articles out about how this trip may benefit President Obama politically and then after this scandal broke, there were articles about how this scandal was overshadowing the President's trip. Without knowing all the facts, I'm not prone to make any suppositions about all this coming out but.......................

(6,810 posts)Instead, we get pithy words and watered-down proposals (that are often rehashes of old Republican ideas) that get mercilessly attacked by conservatives until the President and Congressional Democrats fold like cheap cards and the bills are more diluted than magic homeopathic wooter. Obama being "angry" is like watching a kitten roar: So cute and not the least bit threatening... great for YouTube but not something you want in a president, and certainly not if he or she is *supposed* to be on the same side of the political spectrum as yourself.

Better yet, you my want to find a more appropriate place

rather than about the incident cited in the OP.
Granted you didn't say anywhere "I blame Obama!", but yet you did in a way
because there's a clearly visible thread of blaming energy in your post and in
what you chose to focus on, rather than the OP (i.e. how the SS fucked up big
time).

(9,893 posts)I don't get this so-called controversy. SS hired hookers. Who cares? Is anybody surprised? Buncha guys in a foreign contry with time to kill. Do people really believe that stiff-necked, suited, sunglassed, humerless, wire-in-the-ear act?

(5,455 posts)those Secret Service agents and other personnel involved are directly or indirectly responsible for the security of the President and his family, in addition to any other diplomatic personnel present. By behaving as they did, they could have potentially compromised the safety of the President in addition to the bad press, rightly or wrongly, that this has generated.

(6,665 posts)Prostitution is legal and is a valid career choice in that country.
Are there specific rules about agents hiring prositutes in countries where that profession is legal?
If not, then what's the "anger" about? Refusing to pay for services rendered?

(5,455 posts)about whether or not they were in compliance with Secret Service rules and the poor judgement they showed. They are responsible for the safety of the President and his family, which means they get held to a higher standard of conduct. If they are not willing to follow that higher standard, then they should have transferred out of the Presidential detail, which as far as I know, is a voluntary assignment.
