French government donates $1.2 million to ensure Charlie Hebdo lives on
Source: Mashable
The staff of Charlie Hebdo has vowed to keep the magazine alive, and outside help is rolling in to ensure they can keep that promise.
The French government is pledging nearly 1 million (about $1.2 million) to Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical magazine that was the target in one of the most horrific attacks France has seen in years. The pledge, first reported by France 24, is the largest in what has become a growing surge of donations for the magazine.
Charlie Hebdo announced on Thursday via its website that the next issue of the magazine would come out on Jan. 14 with the title "Le Journal Des Surivants" or "The Magazine of the Survivors."
Other donations continued to come in. Google donated 250,000 ($296,000) to the magazine through its Press Innovation Fund, according to a report from The Guardian. French newspapers promised another 250,000 through the Press and Pluralism Fund, according to Les Echos.

(120 posts)But who goes to commit mass murder and goes
Ak47 (check)
Muslim outfit (check)
Tell them Al qaeda did it (check)
OH SHIT! Better remember my ID (check)
AND then drops it at the scene.
All the whilst "Known" to the Authorities.
Kind of bizarre that the youngest suspect immediately hands himself in when named.
I'm in the process of drawing a caricature of Jesus upside down on a cross getting sodomized by the pope.
Is that free speech?
Maybe its just me but I was raised to show respect for all people and religions.
It seems pretty pointless to me to continue Prodding Muslims and then complain about the result.
Maybe it time to open a true dialogue and reach a common understanding.

(1,049 posts)for some reason, but often leave it behind accidentally.
Basically we are supposed to believe that 2 (or 3) muslims meticulously planned a mass murder (complete with an illegal weapons cache and a list of targets)... wore masks to hide their identity... and brought their ID's (and "accidentally left their ID's in the car" ??
I call BS.
Kind'a reminds me of the FBI "finding" all the hijackers passports on the streets of New York (in near pristine condition) on 9/11. Way too "convenient" for reality.
...further, I am sure it has NOTHING to do with the fact that France recently it's support of Palestine as a State:

NOTE: Watch for France to back-off it's support of Palestine.

france has been displeasing its supposed allies in several ways recently

(1,333 posts)Use this event as a way to justify further support of Islamic militants (the so called Free Syria Army) in Syria. I swear, it seems like the rulers pray for this sort of events so they can justify their unpopular and disastrous adventures in the middle east

(79 posts)When the press is scared to print what they want than we all lose. I hope these guys print cartoons of every religion everyday most notably the Muslim religion. Until these religious morons can laugh at themselves we are all in trouble.
thats where i have a problem. Lets persecute the Muslim faith for the actions of a few.
Is it Ok to ridicule catholics for their beliefs? Who draws the line at offensive,You?
For some people religion is the core of their soul, what gives you the right to mock and deride their belief?
OnePercentDem
(79 posts)to say what I believe and mock whom I want. That is called free speech and I'm an equal opportunity mocker. That being said, I have not heard of any catholics killing people because of a cartoon. Anyone with a mentality above a four year old should be able to tell you that a cartoon is meant as a joke.

(120 posts)Its a perfect excuse to hide all sorts of behaviour without taking any personal responsibility for your actions or words.
I dont believe you should use free speech as a weapon towards others. There is a difference between genuine humour and deliberate mocking someones beliefs.
In some peoples world its OK to say their God is a PDFile, but hey "Its meant as a joke"
Frees speech is the justification. No better than a schoolyard bully who when caught says i'm only joking.

(79 posts)So mocking Muslims through a cartoon is justification for murder but mocking Jew's through movies, cartoons, sitcoms and so on is all in fun. Its called a fucking joke and I could care less what any group thinks of me. Yes free speech covers a lot and when you start to justify what is and is not free speech because of certain groups of people get offended than you might as well throw free speech away, which by the way, is what they want us to do.
Sorry, screw that and screw them.

(120 posts)There is absolutely no justification for murder, and there is absolutely no justification to slander or mock any group or person no matter what their beliefs all hidden under the guise of "Free speech".
A common slander against the Muslim religion is that their prophet was a pedophile, this based on modern day moral beliefs and laws. But. Mohammed married based on ancient laws and customs. A custom of marrying the conquered eldest daughter so they can lay legitimate claim to conquered lands. When they became a "Woman" and only then was conjugal relations formed.
This was so common that Europe's royalty married child brides to strengthen the families and hold on to power.
When people hold their Western ancestors to the same standards as the East then we have the right to criticise.
Until then that is not "Free speech" but hypocrisy and double standards.
I have absolutely no respect for anyone who mocks another beliefs and says "it was a joke"
If you don't have the balls to stand behind what you say and face the consequences, don't say it.
