New Video Of Tamir Rice Shooting Shows Police Arresting Sister, Delaying First Aid
Source: Huffington Post
Previously unreleased surveillance footage surrounding the police shooting of a boy in Cleveland shows authorities forcing the young victim's 14-year-old sister to the ground, handcuffing her and putting her in a patrol car.
The video, obtained by Cleveland.com and released on Wednesday, also indicates that Cleveland Police waited four minutes before administering first aid to the dying 12-year-old boy, Tamir Rice.

11 minutes and someone shows up with what looks like a first aid kit. Gurney shows up at 12 min. Wheeled off right before 14 min. I can't watch more.

(1,727 posts)the officers' version of events just boggle the mind.
First off, the video exposed several lies in the initial statement.
Secondly, it clearly shows that Rice was shot before the car even came to a stop.
This shows the deeply ingrained the racist/authoritarian mentally that leads people to justify any action on the part of the police. If person can look at that video and earnestly claim that the actions of the officers were justified, you can't even begin to have a debate.

(1,727 posts)They were told that there was a possible active shooter who was brandishing a weapon. However, when they arrived on the scene it should have been clear that there was no panic in the store, there were no scared people huddling inside of the store or in the parking lot, and the "shooter" was talking on his cell phone and looking at items on a shelf while using the gun as crutch. In spite of all of this, the officer still shot Crawford on sight without even giving him a chance to show that he wasn't a threat.
...and I'm still at all loss to understand why no changes were filled against the prick who made the bogus 911 call in the first place.

Took us a long time to ferret out the full video of the Fullerton Police beating to death of homeless man Kelly Thomas.
Cop got off, cause the charges were stupid
(can't charge murder when father has the plug pulled)
But the person who called in, from a restaurant, giving false statement that Thomas was breaking into cars (because they hate homeless people hanging out at the bus depot).
NEVER was charged!
Intolerable!

(7,769 posts)An engagement that close to the cruiser cannot be standard operating procedure for an armed confrontation.
If it were really an active shooter, they would have driven into a hail of bullets.
Unless they were trying to overwhelm the perp, shock and awe style. Again - is that standard operating procedure?

(11,461 posts)by what they're seeing taking place, besides the fact that they completely ignored the boy lying on the ground, they arrested his older sister for grieving, that is the only thing I can see she did wrong that got her arrested.

(1,134 posts)That boy was killed because of the way the police approached the situation. They went in there acting as if they were soldiers in a war zone approaching a known hostile target. Had they approached the situation as police officers approaching a citizen of the community they work for, this would have had a totally different outcome.
