Second abandoned migrant ship spotted off Italian coast
Source: BBC
The Italian coast guard says a merchant ship with at least 400 migrants on board is heading for the Italian coast.
The Ezadeen, sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone, had no crew on board and was going towards Puglia in the south-east of Italy.
An Icelandic vessel confirmed to the BBC that it was assisting in efforts to board the ship.
Almost 1,000 migrants were rescued from another ship found abandoned without any crew earlier in the week.

(8,821 posts)4. Why can't these ships be spotted earlier on their voyage . . .
Perhaps the crews could be captured and forced to face charges of smuggling people.

Abandoned migrant ship Ezadeen reaches Italy
A ship abandoned by its crew off Italy with 450 migrants on board has arrived at the Italian port of Corigliano Calabro, the coastguard says.
Earlier, rescuers boarded the Ezadeen after a passenger raised the alarm as it drifted in the Mediterranean.
The ship, sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone, lost power in rough seas overnight off the south-east of Italy.

Italy's coastguard tweeted to say the Ezadeen arrived into port shortly before 23:00 local time (22:00 GMT).
