The United States and NATO have formally ended the 13-year war in Afghanistan with a ceremony at their military headquarters in Kabul.

It marked the completion of the US-led International Security Assistance Force's combat mission as foreign troops prepare to take on a purely supportive role.

ISAF commander General John Campbell symbolically rolled up the green and white ISAF flag and raised the flag of the new mission, Resolute Support.
