Exclusive: NCIS Investigating Bin Laden 'Shooter'

Source: The Daily Beast/Newsweek

The former Navy SEAL who ignited a controversy when he publicly claimed credit for killing Osama bin Laden is under investigation for possibly leaking official secrets, The Daily Beast has learned. A representative for O’Neill, who tours on the public speaking circuit, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson for the NCIS didn’t respond, either.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service has received an allegation that Robert O’Neill, who recounted his role in the 2011 raid on bin Laden’s compound to several journalists, may have revealed classified information to people who weren’t authorized to receive it, according to individuals familiar with the matter. The NCIS has begun an investigation into the allegation to determine whether it has any merit.

The news that O’Neill is being investigated for potential criminal acts hasn’t been previously reported. In previous interviews with The Daily Beast, former special operations officials, as well as other sources who are familiar with raid on bin Laden’s compound, accused O’Neill of misstating key facts and wrongly taking credit for killing the world’s then-most wanted man.

At issue is who fired the shot—or shots—that hit bin Laden in the head, splitting open his skull and almost certainly ending his life. O’Neill insists that he was the shooter. Fellow Seal Matt Bissonnette also claims to have shot bin Laden. But others say a still-unidentified man likely fired the round that caused a lethal head wound.

Claiming credit for killing him is probably not a breach of classified info
But, he may be saying other things in his 'inspirational' and 'profitable' speaking engagements that are

Often people who are lying say things they shouldn't to bolster their credibility

The American Justice system refuses to make them answer for their unlawful behavior. Authorizing and performing torture is a much worse crime than revealing classified information to unauthorized people.

Since the Justice Department refuses to follow through and do their fucking jobs, I propose that the we allow the World Court to take custody of Bush/Cheney et al and confine them in the Hague until their guilt or innocence can be determined in a fair trial where evidence can be presented and evaluated.

Or is he talking about details of the organization of the mission that might be relevant to future missions?

Is he just being persecuted or is he doing something wrong?

How can we know?

And won't they have to reveal even more secrets if they try him?

I don't understand this at all.

....This was a group of many as a team that made this work. Both men should be on trial. They risk their team members lives by being so narcisistic and open. Obviously you must be like them!

I can't understand that reasoning.

The matter is in the past. It is history. Why shouldn't details that do not compromise future operations be known?

I really don't understand. Can you explain in detail that I as a lay person can understand.

If you have a fire, the firemen can describe what they did, who did what etc. to put out the fire. If you have a war, the details of the operations should be revealed unless there is a good reason to keep them secret.

Why should facts about the Bin Laden matter be kept secret?

Bin Laden died three years ago. I don't understand why this is secret.
