Nigeria: Dozens killed in double bombing in Jos

A twin bomb attack has taken place in a busy area of the Nigerian city of Jos, killing at least 30 people, witnesses say.

The two bombs exploded in quick succession, close to the scene of a major bombing in May.

The city of Jos has a mixed population of Muslims and Christians, and in recent years suspected Boko Haram militants have attacked churches there.

Witnesses told the Associated Press news agency that the first explosion took place at an outdoor food stand.

The second blast hit a marketplace.

Double bombing rocks Nigeria, 13-yr-old with suicide vest held

At least 31 people were killed in a double bombing in the Nigerian city of Jos today, while a 13-year-old girl in an explosives vest was arrested in the northern city of Kano.

The blasts in Jos happened at a makeshift market near the Terminus bus station, which had been set up after a twin car bomb attack in May that left at least 118 people dead.

In Kano, a senior security source and a nurse said a 13-year-old was arrested on Wednesday after she and a male accomplice walked into a clinic seeking medical treatment.

The location of the clinic -- some 20 kilometres from the scene of a double suicide attack by two women on a textile market just hours earlier -- raised suspicions.
