Six killed when plane crashes into house in Gaithersburg

Source: W Post

By Dana Hedgpeth and Dan Morse

Six people were killed when a plane crashed into a house in Montgomery County on Monday morning, authorities said.

Three people aboard the plane and three people inside the house were killed in the crash, according to a tweet from the Montgomery County fire department. The incident occurred about a mile northwest of the Montgomery County Airpark.

Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Department, said that the three victims aboard the plane were found dead at the scene and were not transported to a hospital. It took emergency personnel until almost 4:30 p.m. to confirm that three people in the house had also been killed.

Montgomery County Fire Chief Steven E. Lohr said at a news conference earlier in the afternoon that three people were unaccounted for and that they were residents of 19733 Drop Forge Lane, a home in the cul-de-sac which the plane crashed into.

I mean the chance of a tragedy such as this happening is remote, but this proves it can be and is a reality to be lived with. May the relatives of all killed find some kind of peace.....

That airport, known as the Montgomery County Air Park, has always worried me. It has a lot of traffic, no air traffic control, and there are a lot of houses nearby. When we were looking for a house, we refused to look for anyplace too close to the airport.

What that poor father and his 5-year-old must be going through. To lose a wife and two young children, a mother and two siblings. And their home. It's heartbreaking.

The airport sells jet fuel which is typical for an airport of that size.

crashed another plane at the same airport 4 years ago. He survived that crash with no injuries. Unfortunately, a different ending today.

I never knew that there was no air traffic control until today.

This is this pilot's second crash at the same airport. This is his last one, though he took a number of other people with him.

My heart goes out to this mother and her children, complete innocents destroyed by this accident.
