Gazprom To Set Up New Company For Gas Pipeline To Turkey
Source: RFE
Russia's state-controlled natural gas monopoly Gazprom says it will establish a company to build a gas pipeline to Turkey, days after President Vladimir Putin announced the new project.
Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kuprianov said in a statement on December 8 that the company will be registered in St. Petersburg and will be called "Gazprom Russkaya."
Putin said last week that Russia was dropping the South Stream project and was instead planning to build a pipeline to Turkey.
Putin also said Russia could set up a natural gas distribution hub on the Turkish-Greek border to supply Europe with gas.

(90,061 posts)So much of this for so much of that.
There is a Russian clearing system in the works, supposedly next year, but who knows how that will go.
However, I expect much sturmg and drang over this, in fact it's already started, so no idea how it will work out over time, and especially if there ever will really be a pipeline there.

The "Taming" of Europe Or Putin's New Compromise
By Politrussia
December 07, 2014 "ICH" - "Politrussia" - Putin's model of handling the internal and external partners, competitors and even enemies have long been known to all who are willing to look at things rationally. At the first stage, Putin offers a very good compromise. It is taken as a sign of weakness and rejected. At the second stage, the situation for those who rejected the compromise is rapidly deteriorating and a new compromise is offered, but significantly less profitable. And this continues up until there is no more compromise, or until a forever inflexible partner will "choke on a polonium scarf" in London. For example, in the situation with South Stream, we are observing phase two: the deterioration of EU's position with a hint of a new compromise in the form of an extended "Blue Stream" and a gas hub on a border with Greece.

(3,431 posts)So Russia wants all of Eastern and Southern Europe
to become dependent on their gas/oil.
It is not a dumb move from their side, but it is still
putting all their eggs in one basket, imo.
