Durham police find explosive device near area of protests

Source: local

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police found an undetonated explosive device late Saturday morning in an area where about 20 protesters were arrested Friday evening.

Officers responded to a call about a suspicious device in the 600 block of Foster Street between West Geer Street and West Corporation Street.

They found an undetonated device – a bottle with a wick and a petroleum-based liquid inside of it.

The device was safely removed from the area, authorities said.

I wouldn't be surprised if they find that the police planted the "explosive" device. They can't be trusted anymore.

A crude incendiary device, not an explosive in the ordinary sense. The bottle is filled with thickened gasoline (you can use liquid dish detergent for this purpose) & a fuel-soaked rag is tied around the neck. You light the rag, throw the bottle, & smash it against the side of an invading Army tank. The burning rag ignites the splattered gasoline. Hit a tank with a few of these & they tend to make the tank very hot while burning the oxygen out of the local air.

I suppose they work on other vehicles too.

along with a gauntlet of them jeering at them trying to look like the Klan and saying horrible things to that group just marching quietly to their Capital?

These are people that have been waiting for "a race war"....they would do something like this too...

I'm not condoning it by any means, just saying that many people have the resources right in their garage, so it's not something that takes a rocket scientist to make.

Nobody threw it, nothing was burned and no threats were made. Sounds like some Police Street Theater to me.

...someone brought it along "just in case" the opportunity came up, and, luckily, the cops dispersed them before it did.

My experience with movement activity is that there is usually a small but significant number self-destructive and violent people involved - for instance, the so-called black block - and that their destructive tendencies shouldn't be allowed to harm innocent people or discredit the movement as a whole. They certainly should not be provided a lame "cover story". Nobody believes it, and it makes those who propagate it seem either foolish and naive.

...weren't caused by spontaneous combustion. The were caused by incendary devices like this one. After one prominent "protestor" urged the crowd to and “Burn this bitch down”.

I'm glad the cops are taking this threat serriously, and anyone caught with molotov cocktail at a protest should be arrested and jailed immediatly.
