Family of NYC chokehold victim moved by protests

Source: AP-Excite

NEW YORK (AP) — Eric Garner's mother and widow say they have been moved to see thousands of marchers protesting peacefully after a New York City grand jury declined to indict a police officer in Garner's chokehold death.

Garner's mother said Saturday it "warmed her heart" to see so many protests after Wednesday's announcement there would be no indictment of the officer who used a chokehold on Garner as he gasped "I can't breathe."

Garner's widow says she saw demonstrators from her apartment window and told her son, "Look at all the love that your father's getting."
Demonstrators around the country have staged die-ins and other protests following the Garner grand jury's decision, which closely followed a Missouri grand jury's decision not to indict a white officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old.

But maybe we can prevent one more needless death from happening to another family. Just maybe.
