And we love Train Travel. The downside to this riding on Amtrak will soon require taking your shoes off and being nearly X-Rayed to the point of TSA nudity like in a Airport .
Thanks whoever idiot Suspect was for likely ruining what is the peaceful and less stressful ride of the Amtrak Wolverine Route.

(8,361 posts)Homeless people travel back and forth on the lower levels of the Amtrak train. I guess that's where they live.

(57,936 posts)Rarely do I see anyone who looks homeless. Almost never, and I travel quite often.
In fact, Amtrak travel is not cheap, and the tickets are always checked. For seniors, it is over $25 one-way between Los Angeles and San Diego. I don't think homeless people pay that just to sit on a train.
I wonder whether seniors look homeless to some young people.

(7,006 posts)As a frequent consumer of train travel with Amtrak, I have never seen the "homeless people" at the lower level of these trains. Elderly, Seniors -- Yes. Homeless --- No.
Suggestion: We need to watch what we stay about folks and how others perceive it. In this case, folks like myself that love Amtrak would perceive this unverified statement of homeless folks on the lower level of Amtrak trains, very negatively.

(22,271 posts)Amtrak San Joaquin as a matter of fact. I, too, have never seen a homeless person on the train and you're right. The lower levels are for seniors and disabled.
I do disagree with you on the price. I can go from Fresno to Van Nuys round trip for about $83.00. If I drove my truck, it would be twice that (F150 gas hog).
I've also never had a bad experience on Amtrak wherein a good experience on an airline is a rarity and I get to pay 3 times the price for the privilege.

I think a more appropriate comment would be, "thank god he chose a knife and not a 9MM with a big dick clip".

Why should I give a rat's ass about banning knives? Granted, they do kill a lot more people than assault weapons but even then there are others ways to keep violent crime rates steadily declining.
Darb
(2,807 posts)every time another weapon is used to kill (actually, it seems more like injure) a number of people at one time without interruption until mucho damage has been done? To say things like, "We should ban cars then", or some other nonsensical bullshit like what I could easily find in the comment section of an online report about this knife incident?
Thanks for the usual gun hoarder obtuseness and games.
Banned? Probably not, but we will drastically limit the ridiculous state of affairs that is today's reality. Believe that.

(39,171 posts)there are immature and childish views on both sides of the issue.
Drastically limit? Come talk to me when you regain all the ground you lost after your last "victory" (ie the 1994 AWB). Gun control is a smoking ruin in America - without the financial help of a certain republican billionaire it would be non-existent.

you are the poster. You need to provide your link. Thank you.
Do you actually think violent crime has been increasing? Would you be shocked to know we have cut our murder rate in half in the past 20 years?
I am happy to read your "opinion." Now back it up. Thank you.

So what is your opinion? Do you think I will be able to back it up?

(39,171 posts)you could just repost it. really. This is a forum. Not all of us want to "go back" and "look stuff up" when we read. Back your shit up, or don't post.

(24,890 posts)Period - and there were 11,101 Firearm-related homicides in 2011. Not 8500. Selective phrasing may make that happen but data is rolling now in the ACS world. Best bet now is a higher rate than 2007.
And numbers have dropped since 1993 from just under 18k to the current rates. That is a result of demographic trends, policies, aging population, and controls. Minimal percentage changes in a 4 year window don't mean anything. Freakonomics might be a good start.

just remember, "assault weapons" are a subset of rifle so they would be used even less for murder.
