Palestinians kill four in Jerusalem synagogue attack
Source: Reuters
(Reuters) - Two Palestinians armed with a meat cleaver and a gun killed four people in a Jerusalem synagogue on Tuesday before being shot dead by police, the deadliest such incident in six years in the holy city amid a surge in religious conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to respond with a "heavy hand", and again accused Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of inciting violence in Jerusalem.
Abbas condemned the attack, which comes after a month of unrest fueled in part by a dispute over Jerusalem's holiest shrine.
A worshipper at the morning service in the Kehillat Bnei Torah synagogue in an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of West Jerusalem said about 25 people were praying when shooting broke out.

(45,850 posts)We must take tougher measures, including those we have not taken before, Finance Minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) says.
The houses of these terrorists must be demolished tonight, and the terrorists that set out to commit terror attacks must know that they will not return to them alive. We will spare nothing, we will act with a heavy hand in Jerusalem, we will not allow this to continue.
Lapid echoes other Israeli leaders in blaming incitement by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for the attack and adds, Everything is on the table
they must know that neither they, nor their families, nor anybody else will escape unscathed from this kind of murder.

(7,759 posts)There is no answer in collective punishment. There is no answer in more violence against Israelis. The only answer is Palestinian state, end to occupation. Israel know full well that building more settlements will spark just what it has and this gives them an excuse for more genocide against the Palestinians.

(16,199 posts)Back when there were more suicide bombings, Hamas and similar groups often promised those about to commit the attack that if they went through with it that their families would be taken care of. The Israelis responded by trying to make the family miserable and homeless to dissuade further attacts.
That said, it does appear this one is pure vengeance.

stupid Palestinians have to resort to terrorism and killing of innocent people ... to what end?

http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Hamas-affiliated-social-media-abuzz-with-cartoons-glorifying-Jerusalem-terror-attack-382152
Hamas affiliated social media exploded Tuesday with violent and anti-Semitic cartoons praising the terrorist attack that killed four people Tuesday morning at a synagogue in Jerusalem.
The two Palestinian terrorists from east Jerusalem armed with a gun and axes, attacked worshipers after entering a synagogue on Agasi Street in the capital's Har Nof neighborhood.
One of the cartoons showed a bloody meat cleaver, such as the one used in Tuesday's attack, with images of the Dome of the Rock and al-Aksa Mosque in the reflection, saying "for you oh Aksa," and in big black letters "Jerusalem resists."
This is what the people in Gaza elected. For anyone who can't understand why support for Israel remains so high in the US, they need look no further than this.

I think we may be seeing a third intifada getting underway. Netanyahu can blame the Palestinians all he wants, but he needs to look in the mirror.

Recall the legitimate outrage when that Jewish fellow went into the mosque years ago and killed those people.
Now compare and contrast...

The Palestinian street is enraged that Jews want to pray at the Temple Mount, their holiest site in the world.
-snip-
Much of the recent violence stems from tensions surrounding the Jerusalem holy site referred to by Jews as the Temple Mount because of the Jewish temples that stood there in biblical times. It is the most sacred place in Judaism; Muslims refer to it as the Noble Sanctuary, and it is their third holiest site, after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

(26,060 posts)Or make things worse? Maybe it's time for people to ask themselves that question rather than showing the world the pictures like in the post above - giving out candy and celebrating killers. THIS is why American support for Israel remains so high. And let's remember they're doing this while begging the world to recognize them as a state. Do you think this will help that cause?
Feron
(2,063 posts)a lot of that support comes from end-timer Christians who don't give a flying fuck about Jews and residual WWII guilt. I actually see that support waning quite a bit which is good because religious beliefs and guilt are a terrible basis for foreign policy.
And yes the Palestinians celebrating the murders and murderers are assholes. I don't see how murdering Jews is going to help the Palestinian cause any more than tearing down the homes of Palestinian suspects helps Israel's cause. Both sides are locked in a cycle of hatred and violence that they both perpetuate.
Quite frankly I only feel sorry for the regular people that just want to live in peace on both sides. The fanatics can't die off soon enough.
I still say there ought to be a PPV event and maybe call it the "Religious Rumble" "Holy Wars" or something. Gather up all your Holy Land fighters, send them to an island, give them all a gun, and the last Jew, Christian, or Muslim standing gets that piece of desert as a prize. It's a can't lose situation.
