(Vermont) GOP lawmakers urge Shumlin to fire Gruber
Source: WCAX
MONTPELIER, Vt. -
A trio of House Republicans is calling for Governor Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, to fire one of the architects of his single-payer financing plan.
The plan won't be released until January, but the lawmakers say the Shumlin should find someone else to finish the job given the national scandal centering on Jonathan Gruber.
Gruber helped craft the federal Affordable Care Act or Obamacare.
But given comments he made regarding the importance of American "stupidity" and a lack of transparency in the bill's passage, and that he made one of his controversial comments in Vermont, some say the state should no longer employ him for its single-payer work.

(57,936 posts)I read the article, but I don't understand why the comment about transparency and the stupidity of Americans is all that surprising. A lot of the laws that pass would not pass were it not for the lack of transparency in our system and the stupidity of voters who elect people who don't represent them or value transparency. DId he say something else?

(114,904 posts)that the legislation was deliberately crafted to be non-transparent and confusing and that the American public is stupid. And he made a crack about a Vermonter who expressed concerns about SP. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some dems in VT joined whatever three repubs who are demanding Gruber be fired. I haven't seen who they are but I'm guessing Joe Benning is one of them.

(28,552 posts)... I agree with the Republicans. This bozo should be drummed out of the consultancy business permanently. He's done a lot of damage.
As for the fact that lots of legislation is less than transparent, that is obvious. You don't hear the crafters of such legislation shooting their mouths off about it for damn good reason.

And what's taking so long? Vermont should have got their plan up and running by now.
