Vatican Confirms: Pope Will Visit Philly

Source: Philadelphia Magazine

The Vatican made it official today: Pope Francis will visit Philadelphia during the World Meeting of Families next year. The announcement had been long expected — even mentioned by Pope Francis himself — but today’s announcement puts the visit firmly on the schedule.

NBC10:

“We look forward to Pope Francis’ arrival in Philadelphia next September and we will welcome him joyfully with open arms and prayerful hearts,” said Archbishop Charles Chaput, the leader of Philadelphia’s Archdiocese.

The Pope made the announcement in Rome during his opening remarks at the Humanum Colloquium. The Humanum Colloquium is a gathering of leaders and scholars, including Chaput, of various religions around the world focused on marriage and family life.

I've heard whispers that Tea Party/NRA associated fucks plan to protest him for being too liberal.

Hope they bring the Popemobile and a lot of guards.

It's been almost 36 years since a Pope has been here. Any RW loons may be in for a rude awakening trying to set foot here though.

Of course that last one I would have skipped, Benedict did more damage than good to the Catholic Church. But I like Pope Francis because for the first time I think I can see the Catholic Church moving into the 21st century. I will definitely be attending this.

I did the Inauguration in 2008. Still need to do a Democratic Convention and go to the Olympics (obviously to watch). I got plenty of other things but those are like big events I'd like to do.

As for the Tea Party - there is no 'Brotherly Love' for the Tea Party in Philadelphia. The people of the city will chase those assholes out ASAP.

When I was studying for an MA in History of Religion at Harvard, a Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Regensburg came to lecture on Luther from a modern Catholic viewpoint. This was the then Father Joseph Ratzinger. I spent a couple of hours in a small group discussion with him on his belief that the Augsberg Confession was wholly compatible with present-day Catholic belief.

He spoke excellent English and was personally charming, but unfortunately has exactly the same accent and speech patterns as Henry Kissinger.

I think if it happened before the elections it could have helped out Corbett a bit. He would have somehow taken claim to bringing the Pope to Pennsylvania.

The"Pope" can visit a landfill for all I care.

I want him and the Cult O' Molestors, to butt out of peoples personal decisions.
