Not so fast: Gay marriage on hold again in Nevada

Source: Reno Gazette-Journal

Justice Anthony Kennedy has issued a new order staying the Ninth Circuit's mandate overturning Nevada's constitutional ban on same sex marriage, capping a day of whipsaw judicial orders that has left couples spinning.

First, Kennedy issued an order this morning staying the Ninth Circuit's decision mandating the legality of same sex marriage in Nevada and Idaho. Then, Kennedy issued an order clarifying that Nevada wasn't subject to the stay, which meant same sex couples could seek a marriage license.

Within an hour of that ruling, the Coalition to Protect Marriage applied for a new stay in Nevada.

That resulted in Kennedy issuing his latest order, which blocks same sex marriage in the state.

Still won't allow gay marriage.

I would think Vegas would want it to be legal, and without Vegas, Nevada is NOTHING.

Unfortunately there are enough backwards ass little towns spread around the state to negate what Vegas wants a lot of the time.

Kennedy is in charge of the 9th circuit for immediate appeals. He has to allow time for both sides to file briefs in the appeal. It be like demanding the Senate send a bill to the President without voting on it.

Is this guy on crack or something?

I thought cons said they want to stimulate the economy! A bunch of weddings would pull in more money to the local economy than all the crap tables in Vegas!

Fuck the "moral values" coalition and their stupid hypocritical bullshit. On one hand these cons spout off shit talking points about how Obama's policies are "killing jobs" and ruining the economy. Then when they get an opportunity to STFU and actually practice what they preach, they put the brakes on their economic platform because of something they think would make colicky Jesus start to cry.

Why isn't this court applying the same obvious standards of Loving v. Virginia and giving LGBT people their constitutional right to due process and equal protection under the law? The moral cons said that God would unleash the apocalypse if a white person could marry a black person, and nothing happened. But I bet they're perfectly fine with the fact that George Romney had a gazillion wives.

Seriously, fuck these guys. Fuck them a million ways to Sunday.

I was reading that they are most often granted while the court gets inputs from all parties. According to what I read, a lengthy stay would require the full court and a lengthy stay wouldn't make any sense since they just declined to hear a number of appeals on similar cases.
