Catholic Fund Cuts Off Aid Over Groups’ Affiliations
Source: NY Times
DENVER For three years now, Compañeros, a small nonprofit organization in rural southwestern Colorado, has received thousands of dollars from the Roman Catholic Church to help poor Hispanic immigrants with basic needs including access to health care and guidance on local laws.
But in February, the group was informed by a representative from the Diocese of Pueblo that its financing from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, an arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops devoted to ending poverty, was in danger.
The problem, the diocesan liaison explained, was Compañeross membership in an immigrant rights coalition that had joined forces with a statewide gay and lesbian advocacy group, recounted Nicole Mosher, Compañeross executive director.

Catholic Church is just desperate. Using their 'logic' no one should give to an organization who has more convicted pepophiles than any other ....religion.

(718 posts)we need to stop using christian and good as synonyms. God is not great, and Christian is not virtuous. There is not test for belief. I never heard of card carrying christians.

(19,348 posts)The RCC along with the Evangelicals profess such goodness, yet their churches have failed to produce as such.

(6,699 posts)Born and raised Catholic....raised all four of my children in Catholic schools up through high school; married a Mexican Catholic and live in a Catholic environment...I have OFFICIALLY tossed my last penny into the collection basket of this corrupt and f*cked up Church. Enough is enough.
Not only do they persecute my party members, but they have a history of persecution and standing on the side of ignorance and evil. From the Inquisition, to the covering up of molesting children...I am thoroughly ashamed of the Catholic Church. Hypocrites and ignorant butt holes.
I'm angry...and I'm finished with the Church I grew up in. They have morphed like the repukkke party....evil and hypocritical.

(58,162 posts)the catholic church is the oldest criminal organization in history. directly and indirectly responsible for tens of millions of deaths across the world. since it is a foreign state religion the usa should strip the church of it`s tax exemption.
