Texas senator makes Holocaust comparison in speech

Source: AP

LUBBOCK — A recently elected West Texas state senator on Tuesday compared what he called a “spiritual battle” against religion in the United States to the Holocaust.

Charles Perry made the comparison after being sworn in on Tuesday following his victory earlier this month in a special election to replace a retiring state senator, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.

In his inaugural speech, Perry said a recent trip to a concentration camp in Germany made him draw a comparison between what he believes are efforts by the government to pass laws against religion and the killing of Jews during the Holocaust.

“There were 10,000 people that were paraded into a medical office (at the concentration camp in Germany) under the guise of a physical. As they stood with their back against the wall, they were executed with a bullet through the throat. Before they left, 10,000 people met their fate that way,” Perry said.

that the comparison has to be hugely offensive to those whose family died in the Holocaust.

I must write him a letter to the effect that when he has to walk on a certain side of the street, when he is not permitted to leave the country that is persecuting him, and when he submits a list of his friends and relatives who were murdered in the way he describes, then I'll consider his comparison halfway valid.

I'd like him to read several holocaust diaries too.

to the point that many of the their most celebrated equate homosexuals to murderers and terrorists. In addition to the millions of Jews executed, the Nazis also killed an undetermined number of homosexuals. Here is a summary of their persecution. The first stages appear pretty much the "Christian" Republican playbook.

I mean, it's an outrageously false comparison but the right makes Holocaust comparisons so often, to so many things, I simply fail to be surprised when they do it again.

that he was elected as a state senator, not a state preacher. I would love to see these anti separation of church and state people live for one day under a regime that did actively encourage religion - just not their religion.
