Congressman: Secret Service Should Install ADT at the White House

Source: ThinkProgress

-snip-
A Republican congressman elicited laughs during a House Oversight Committee hearing into the Sep. 19th security breach at the White House when he suggested that the Secret Service install a home security system to protect the president’s residence from intrusions.

“If someone opens a window or a window is broken at my house, I have an alarm,” Rep. John Mica (R-FL) explained in questioning Secret Service Director Julia Pierson about how an intruder was able to jump over the White House fence and run into the president’s residence before being apprehended by agents in the East Room.

Mica then held up a sign displaying the logo for ADT, a Florida-based home security system.

what he was up to.

If NSA cannot catch someone so elementary with all the snooping, it is really shocking.

Perhaps NSA could be useful by setting up a hotline for people to inquire about which restaurants have a long wait vs a short wait and which business' parking lot has space.

... Like a white teenage spoiled-brat punk with no respectability about himself (think Mitt Romney as a youth.) You know... they almost got away with their "concern" over the lax security around the WH. But then this Republican John Mica finally steps in it. Blows their cover. Leave up to a Republican to crack a totally inappropriate comment. It was probably a subliminal suggestion at privatizing the Secret Service.

I didn't find it amusing either, LiberalElite

alluded to how the SS has been affected by the GOP budget cuts, and how the GOP wants to privatize everything. I remembered that when I saw this headline - I immediately looked up ADT's political contributions but was surprised to learn its given much more to Democrats than Repugs.

the dismissal of popular, excellent staffer/volunteer/on air people like Mama O'Shea
and Bill Mandel.
They were shuffled off by political pressure under what President and what Party?
Mama O'Shea, one of the sweetest and most gifted persons to enable on air
real time organizing, made Judi Bari an even bigger threat leading to her bombing
by FBI associates. that whole nasty affair alone...
\
but who did this network give that time slot to?
why, Jerry Brown, the LEAST gifted and most abominable person you ever heard on the radio.
using that show right until he declared for Mayor of Oakland!
easily, for me, the lowest point in our media history as a nation,
and of course a swell education in how liberal media is verboten in the US.

Am surprised the subject hasn't already come up. Imagine the money to be made.
You know some private contractor is itching to have a shot at this. And the Corporate owned GOP is willing to undermine the SService by underfunding.
Same MO they have used to privatize every other govt funded program.
They get more & we get less, for our taxes.

The racism of the clowns is most obvious ever time the open their ignorant mouths. There's nothing in the Republican party that even looks like there could be a brain trust.

about these comments. The Secret Service hasn't done a good job lately in keeping intruders away from the White House. This guy got way too far into the building before he was nabbed.
This was a little jab at the USSS.
And since when is respect an important detail? If it were a republican in the White House, we would all be making jabs at him. He's getting points for his team. Part of politics as I've understood it has been about making fun of the other team. That's just the nature of the business. You don't get into it unless you have a thick skin, and ready to encounter disrespect.
