McConnell’s backers spend millions in Kentucky
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Two groups with close ties to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell are on track to spend nearly $20 million on television advertisements to sway Kentucky voters, a staggering amount for a single race that stands as a textbook example of the use of outside money in a tight contest.
While the effort began more than a year ago, the majority of the advertising by the Kentucky Opportunity Coalition and Kentuckians for Strong Leadership has aired since McConnell and Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes won primaries in mid-May.
Much of it is relentlessly negative toward the Democratic challenger and President Barack Obama, who is highly unpopular in the state. Liberals coast to coast are rolling out the red carpet for Alison Grimes. Shes backed by Obamas biggest fundraisers, said one early ad.
Obamacare, the war on coal, big spending, higher taxes. Thats Obamas agenda. And Alison Grimes supports Obama, said another.

(6,896 posts)I was lucky to catch a bus out of the airport this one time. saved thirty bucks and rode in relative peace and quiet.
except for the repeated ad spots broadcast on the bus about five or ten times on the way.
Not an ad for McConnell but for a Republican rep with some pretty nasty things to say about Obama, it was weird.
No radio in between. No "next stop blah blah blah"
just this individual ad played every little whipstitch.
disgusting abuse of passengers.
the other FUNNY thing is how the political signs make no mention of the Republican Party.
Something is up there.
should be fun to watch the results.
from another state.

(10,597 posts)... there's one particular ad (the one with the rifle at the skeet-shoot) that runs twice back-to-back. It must be making traction, because why would they be playing the same ad back-to-back umpteen times a day? I know, there are people who don't like the ad, but if that's what it takes to win the Senate race in KY, more power to her. Also, I have rec'd several robo-ads, one with the governor endorsing her. Got two poll calls also on the election, which I have NEVER rec'd before. Go Alison. Get on that Donkey and ride!
