In new ad, Washington Democrats slam Rep. Lee Terry’s shutdown quote

Democrats in Washington ramped up their efforts Tuesday to defeat Rep. Lee Terry with a new television ad highlighting controversial statements the Republican made about continuing to take his paycheck during the government shutdown last year.
The ad by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the electoral arm of Democrats in Congress, features a 16th birthday cake, noting that Terry has been in Congress for 16 years. It then criticizes him for “voting to shut down the government” last year.
“But when asked if he’d take his government salary during the shutdown, Terry replied, ‘Dang straight. ... I’ve got a nice house and a kid in college.’ ” the ad says.
It ends with the birthday candles blown out and the words, “Lee Terry. Isn’t 16 years enough?”
