Trayvon Martin Edited 911 Call: NBC News Regrets Mistake

Source: The Wrap

NBC News has apologized for editing the 911 call that Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman made to police on the night of Martin's death, saying it deeply regrets airing the altered version of the tape.

NBC News said that it realized that it was in error following its investigation of the broadcast.

"During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret," the network said in a statement provided to TheWrap. "We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers."

"Today" aired the tape on March 27, altering it in such a way that could suggest Zimmerman -- a neighborhood watch member in his Florida neighborhood -- was racially motivated in the shooting.

Also, TalkLeft notes: "Zimmerman passed a voice-stress test (which he says is similar to a polygraph) at the police station the night of the shooting." (Does Florida even allow lie detector tests to be admitted in court?)

of Zimmerman telling the 911 dispatcher: "He's up to no good. He looks black." In fact, Zimmerman said "looks black" in response to a neutral question about race from the dispatcher. NBC has sunken to Breitbart levels in this case. Of course this case only lets the right wing hucksters scream about "LIBERAL MEDIA BIAS" and whip up hysteria about a repeat of the '92 LA riots in central Florida.

Great reason to shoot

I work in a rough neighborhood and some of the "roughnecks" helped me (in my car) through an alleyway when the street was blocked one day. I guess they may have "looked" up to no good to some because they live in poor housing.

It was just a shorter version of the tape, sense it was released in full for quite
a while, I guess they should have played the part when GZ thought he was on drugs.

The right wingers over at WaPo are treating this like the second coming of the Kerning of Dan Rather.

Never mind the fact that Zimmerman called Trayvon a "fucking c**n" before getting out of his car, stalking Trayvon, and killing him. This NBC edit "proves" that this idea of Zimmerman being a racist was manufactured. God, what insanity.

the correct verison of the tape from MSNBC. Zimmerman is still going to be arrested.

Trayvon has no voice which pisses me off to no end. Shitty investigation to boot. He will speak from the grave and let the world know that he was murdered.

Eff the right wingers, per them they are never wrong about anything.

of a panting, excited hunter. Sounded like it was from a movie.

A voice test is not similar to a polygraph. It would maybe test a person's confidence. But with a little practice, you can make your voice sound confident even when you are afraid. It is a matter of breathing.

To me, Zimmerman did not sound frightened in his original 911 call. He sounded excited and focused on his prey. That's my subjective interpretation of what I hear on that call. He kind of talks very softly as if he were speaking to a co-conspirator. Listen to it again.

My friend was a big kid and had breathing problems, but he was so excited when he made his first kill, it was really really messed up. His dad wasn't happy about it.

... that Zimmerman initiated the encounter by chasing after Trayvon Martin. There was no need to edit the audio. And it's not even that long to begin with. I was disappointed in NBC for this one.

That said, I can't believe they still haven't arrested Zimmerman. Surely, this is a case that needs to be tried in a courtroom, not dismissed by the police or prosecutor, even with the Stand Your Ground/Shoot First, Ask Questions Later law.

that is likely is going to have to be the feds that drive it IF the clown ever does get prosecuted, as a hate crime - FOREVER validating to the right wing lunatics mindset that it is this inverse racism BS that looms over poor victimized great american existence.

They will drive the discussion in whatever weeds they can do distort the discussion and play their fricken games.

But, the REAL story here, and the great misfortune of it is the powers to be in the county trying to cover for Zimmerman from the beginning. This is like the Sandusky situation - a clear bad bad act by a lunatic, but the powers for whatever god unknown reason (in this case, his judge father of course) decided to try to cover it up.

It should be simple - a mean, halfwit, child of privilege goes mental and executes an innocent kid, is charged appropriately, is properly prosecuted, found guilty and does his bit for it.

No big drama over race or whatever politicized bs tug of war BS it has gotten turned into.

Instead, it is a bloody fight for justice for the victim and the right wing doing their bizarre victimization nonsense.

Lying about it only makes it worse.

Unbelievable that they can get away with this. I guess journalism has no standards left. There should be a huge outrage over this, a news agency splices a tape to make it sound like a person said something they did not actually say.
