Norm Wolfinger is 'outraged' at letter from Travon family lawyer
Source: WKMG Orlando
State Attorney Norm Wolfinger released a statement on Monday saying he is "outraged by the outright lies" contained in a letter written by the attorney of Trayvon Martin's parents, who are seeking a federal review in the case.
Martin family attorney Ben Crump said he is asking the U.S. Justice Department to review the investigation for possible interference by Wolfinger's office on the night Martin was shot to death by Neighborhood Watch leader George Zimmerman.
Crump sent a formal request to the Justice Department on Monday, saying, "within hours of the shooting in which Trayvon Martin was killed, Sanford Chief of Police Bill lee met with State Attorney Norm Wolfinger. We also believe that family members of shooter George Zimmerman were present at the police department. It was further revealed that State Attorney Norm Wolfinger and Chief Bill Lee overruled the recommendation of the lead homicide investigator, Chris Serino, who recommended that George Michale Zimemrman be arrested for manslaughter for killing Trayvon Benjamin Martin."
Wolfinger said he was "outraged by the outright lies contained in the letter..." and he, "encourages the Justice Department to investigate and document that no such meeting or communication occurred."
"I have been encouraging those spreading the irresponsible rhetoric to stop and allow State Attorney Angela Corey to complete her work," Wolfinger said. "Another falsehood distributed to the media does nothing to forward that process."

(35,568 posts)In an interview with ThinkProgress, Martin family attorney Natalie Jackson raised serious questions about the role of George Zimmermans father, Robert Zimmerman, in the case.
....................................
The day after the shooting, George Zimmerman, according to his father, returned with at least three police officers to the Retreat at Twin Lakes, back to that grassy area where plaintive cries for help had gone unanswered. The investigators, accompanied by someone with a video camera, wanted him to re-enact the events of the night when the two strangers had stood their ground.
Mr. Zimmermans father watched from nearby.
Jackson noted that Robert Zimmerman was a retired magistrate judge who issued warrants and knows what probable cause needs to be to justify an arrest. His presence at the questioning, according to Jackson, was unusual and potentially inappropriate because we dont know what coaching went on.

If Mr Wolfinger did nothing wrong, he has nothing to worry about.

(1,185 posts)... like the ambulance driver and the ambulance company, the police office and city staff, the State Atty staff, the mortuary folk, the neighbors, of course, the girlfriend, and the relatives of all of these people. Hard to imagine being forced by fear to stay quiet. Of course, we have a full network interview of the judge/father who was not an eyewitness...all hearsay. If that isn't tainting the jury pool, I don't know what is.
A "self-defense" case with a bullet in the back? At least we don't need a grand jury to discover whether he was shot in the front or back. It's in the report...police had to "turn him over" to administer CPR.
Even with audios and videos he could possibly still get away with it, which, after assaulting a police officer and walking away, he was counting on.

(1,185 posts)not that he was shot in the back, but that the officer had to "turn him over" to attempt to administer CPR. That was the assumption in the article which seemed probable...at least for a more normal case. Was a on a thread on DU...sorry didn't copy it.

Also in 2005, Zimmerman was involved in a bitter domestic violence incident with his ex-fiancee, Veronica Zuazo. In that case, Zuazo filed for a restraining order against Zimmerman, who she said snatched her cell phone from her hand and pushed her during an argument. The next day, both filed court petitions accusing the other of violence.

Zimmerman, 28, is best known from a 7-year-old booking photo of an apparently heavyset figure with an imposing stare, pierced ear and facial hair, the orange collar of his jail uniform visible. The picture, released by police following the deadly shooting, was taken after Zimmermans 2005 arrest on an assault-on-an-officer charge that was eventually dropped.

(1,068 posts)It is a freakin' SHAME that we can't even agree on due process. It is the GOP who have suspended any reasonable chance we have fair, unbiased due process in this country, instead with have justice only for the privileged, republicanized white elite. In a REAL world, Zimmerman would be executed for murder, his dad go to jail for at LEAST 30 (and should get life), and the the idiot AG should get at least 30 for several charges.
Due process? DUE PROCESS?? Give me a freakin' BREAK!!

Tell us you have SOME 1st hand knowledge the rest of us don't have because we have the media and online reports.
Explain that's how you should be judged. Or do you want the same media campaign with networks changing the conversations to suit political agendas?
Now tell us why you said Holder is an idiot.

(9 posts)It no longer matters if the meeting actually happened or not. The Sanford police along with the state attorney have just been swept up in the Public Relations mess that they created themselves.
Someday this entire case should be a chapter in a book on PR of how NOT to handle a situation like this. I also believe that at this point the lawyers for the Martin family are actually holding back a bit. While the State Attorney may not like this letter or even wish to contest some or all of the information presented, he needs to grab his tongue and not go spouting off, he is after all a public servant --- someone needs to remind him of that sometime.

(5,214 posts)"I (Officer T. Smith) attempted to get a response from the black make, but was met with a negative results (sic). At that time Sgt. Rajmondo arrived and attempted to get a pulse on the black male but none was found. At that time, Sgt. Raimondo and I turned the black male over and began CPR."
As I read the report, Sgt. Smith did not attempt to revive Travon for a given time; giving Travon just a little bit more time for him to be dead.
