Multiple tornadoes on the ground in Dallas, Tarrant counties
Source: Dallas Morning News
BURLESON The National Weather Service says tornadoes have touched down in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and there was at least one report of damage.
Weather service advisories issued Tuesday said storm spotters and radar revealed separate tornadoes south of Dallas and Fort Worth. The weather service said the tornado south of Fort Worth caused considerable damage near Cleburne.
Television footage showed a funnel cloud on the ground near Interstate 35 south of Dallas. The weather service said the tornado was near Lancaster and moving north.
There were other reports of developing tornadoes as a band of severe storms moved through the area.

(5,113 posts)Dallas officials have activated the emergency operations center in the basement of City Hall. Police and fire officials are gathering there in front of big screen televisions, monitoring weather and media reports. Officials say they still are assessing the extent of any damage. Were just urging residents to seek shelter and seek more information as the weather situation unfolds, said city emergency management specialist Robert Pesapane.

(37,748 posts)It was a bit exciting-- office was "evacuated" to a large open room in the middle of our slab building. If I was one to worry about these things, I would have been concerned that I'd have been safer in the parking lot.
Tracked a few miles west of the Arlington Convention zone.

As the strength and frequency of these storms increase, how long before the GOP starts blaming Obama for not doing enough about the weather?

(4,106 posts)every time she said she was getting an update on them (text) it was nerver-racking for me. Can't imagine what it was for her. She did a great job

(205,618 posts)She certainly held it together, don't know if I could. I feel especially bad for her poor little niece who's in kindergarten and is in her school under lockdown.
We had "duck and cover" in kindergarten, would send us to the basement, but it was for a much different reason. Scary stuff for little kids.

(6,662 posts)As you probably know, we're within minutes of Forney. This shit is all around us. We just had soft ball sized hail. We are in a huge building - you should have heard the sound!! We are still in lockdown here. I am in my office - no windows, no outer wall. Students should have been out of school 30 minutes ago.

I had two guys that were supposed to fly out this afternoon. AA has 80 planes last I heard they had to check for hail damage.
edited to add: AA canceled all their flights this afternoon/evening.

(24,347 posts)I didn't realize how devastating tornadoes were until one ripped through Southern MA a year ago. I was about a half-mile away, but I couldn't go home that night because every road out of town was blocked.
One of the worst and most frightening experiences of my life.
