New California law allows dogs to dine out

Source: SF Chronicle

(08-21) 17:25 PDT SACRAMENTO -- Your dog can now join you for dinner out under legislation signed Thursday by Gov. Jerry Brown.

The law, which takes effect Jan. 1, overturns a ban on pets at restaurants. While many cafes, brew pubs and steak houses have long allowed dogs on their decks and patios, technically it was illegal.

The legislation gives restaurants the option of permitting pooches in outside dining areas. Discretion to allow dogs, though, remains with the eatery.

curled up in a bakery window among the cakes and pastries. It's considered a sign of cleanliness. My kitteh, however, would lick the icing off the cupcakes.

It was my first day there, and I remember being shocked that they were allowed to do bring dogs inside a store. If the dog is well trained it shouldn't cause any problems though.

In fact, we only dine at places that allow us to sit with our pup.

Los Angeles allowed dog dining, I believe last year, but there are some restaurants that won't permit it. We respect that and just move on to the place next door that does allow it.

Last year, we went to dine at an Italian restaurant that allows you to sit on the patio with your pup just outside the gate from your table (leash in hand). As we stood near the front door waiting to put our name down, a gray haired man walked outside after dining and was giving us dirty looks. He called for the manager, and told the manager within ear shot of us, that they should not allow dogs while people eat. He and his two teenage kids stormed passed us with snarky eyes all the way to their new Jaguar, shaking their heads.

The manager came to us and said, "Don't worry about it. Your table is ready."

I'm so glad Governor Brown signed this, if because I hope it pisses that man and his children off.

Our dog begs my husband for food (but not me since she knows who it works on). Because of that, I would have to leave hubby at home.
