Crowdfunding campaign raises nearly $150,000 for cop who shot Michael Brown

A crowdfunding campaign set up to support the police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, who fatally shot an unarmed black teen has raised nearly $150,000.

The Ferguson police chief last week named Darren Wilson, 28, as the officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. Days after Wilson’s name was released, the “Support Officer Darren Wilson” crowdfunding campaign was launched on the website GoFundMe.

“We stand behind Officer Darren Wilson and his family during this trying time in their lives. All proceeds will be sent directly to Darren Wilson and his family for any financial needs they may have including legal fees,” the GoFundMe page explained. The organizer of the campaign has insisted it is legitimate.

“We are working with Shield of Hope to get our site listed as a Certified Charity for Darren on GoFundMe. This will not only help ease the minds of those who may be skeptical but will help steer people away from the pages that are not legitimate. Thank you so much for your donations!” the organizer wrote in an update on the website.

He won't pay a dime towards any lawyer at all. I am not even sure he could be sued by the Brown family......the Brown Family may be able to sue the state though, but the cop will not be personally sued and I am not sure about "professionally" sued.

32. They'll sue the state, first, who will fight like hell because they have a responsibility to save

the state budget. This isn't like O.J. Simpson where he wasn't found guilty in a criminal trial and then was sued for damages.

Wilson was acting under authority as an employee. I've been involved in suits when employees screwed up and caused disability or death. The employee's name will be at the top of the lawsuit and the agencies that employed them will be listed under the single and severally term.

But attorneys must go for the big pockets, and they will sue all those others as well, where the big money is at. Most suits make sure to punish the state as hard as possible, to change policy.

That is what will happen here and it's what's needed.

Wilson can file for bankruptcy. No way he'll be ruined afterward. He can start his life again somewhere else, unless he's convicted and then he can't leave.

And it's unknown if he will be convicted and while that makes a civil suiteasier, the money will still come from the state. As I said, he can get out from any lien that is filed.

The real change needed is structural, and I believe that will happen. Turn all these characters out of office, no way they are going to play 'business as usual' with this one.

Oh, no. I think this form of funding is part grifting and part for his living expenses as a donation. He'll burn the money up, if he gets any, so there will be nothing to take the way Z-thug did.

There are so many things similar about the reaction to this case from the RW, but the fact that Wilson had a job that gave him the right to shoot that gun is what makes all the diference financially.

It just hit me, even Z-thug wasn't sued, was he?

There will come a time when this could bite us.First off i agree with all protestors in Ferguson. I will remember this post and comments. We may not agree with the cause on a topic similar to this but when people are protesting something whatever the reason let us remember this. Regardless what they are protesting if the militarized police come in remember this moment. As long as they are exercising their rights regardless if we totally agree with those rights. We can go for change or continue to argue amongst ourselves and with the other side or we can come together and make a change. First thing is not leaving room for discussion on the rights that we have. Then get rid of all creating division. Accomplish those then we can talk further but i am afraid this will never happen because msnbc and faux news decides what side we are on all depends on who picks sides first. Turn that shit off.
