Details on shooting may be withheld for weeks

Source: The Hill

St. Louis County investigators will not release details about the shooting of Michael Brown until the information is presented to a grand jury, a process that could take months, the U.S. Attorney on the case said Tuesday.

FBI agents are sharing information they have gathered from the area of the shooting scene with St. Louis County investigators, U.S. Attorney Richard A. Callahan in Missouri told TIME, noting "physical evidence is being analyzed" from the autopsy done Monday.

"While the lack of details surrounding the shooting may frustrate the media and breed suspicion among those already distrustful of the system, those closely guarded details give law enforcement the best yardsticks for measuring whether witnesses are truthful,” Callahan said.

“Without those yardsticks, an investigation becomes more of a guessing game or popularity contest than a search for the truth," he added.

This jury was empaneled in May, and considers all the cases put in front of it -- so this case is one of a number of others. Grand Juries typically meet for once a week, or a few days a month, which doesn't leave a lot of time.

This was a very public crime in Ferguson.

To claim that is will takes weeks and/or months to reach a decision about whether or not to charge Wilson; that information and details will be held back for that long a period, means that there is a considered effort to whitewash this crime.

Murders happen in this country all the time, murders much more complicated than this one and information is made public and suspects are charged often times within a week or less of the incident.

This statement in the article is discouraging: ""That's not going to happen tomorrow. It may be weeks, it may be months, We have to bring calm to our community," Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson told MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown" on Tuesday."

This is exactly the opposite of what is needed ---calm will come and should only come when clear steps towards justice are made public. This is a very disappointing comment from Capt. Johnson.

My opinion is that the local and state authorities in Ferguson and Missouri have adopted a stonewalling strategy, hoping to out wait and wear down the protestors and the community until they can more safely announce that the officer acted appropriately and that no charges will be filed. In the meantime the character maligning of Michael Brown will proceed at full throttle ... just like what happened to Treyvon Martin.

It could be the best way to develop the strongest case.

And it also leaves some time for the prosecutor to recuse himself. Would you rather the present prosecutor charge Wilson now and rush through a prosecution with a weak case?

He - Officer T - was seriously injured. He should be on workman's comp right now if that's the case. I suspect he's not. And it IS a paid vacay if he is not. If he's not - he wasn't injured.

It's a simple question no one in the media is asking . . .

In the meantime this "He was seriously injured" nonsense is allowed to fester.

The police officer was seriously injured in an unprovoked attack by Michael Brown? So let see the injuries, have his Doctor hold a press conference outlining the scope of the officers injuries. A photo or two would be nice. Or is it all just a cover up?

I swear, at times it seems the police is trying to provoke unrest.

They are selectively leaking information that makes Brown look bad, but withholding information that is supposed to be public record. They had no problem releasing Brown's drug test results that show he smoked pot, they won't let us know anything else though.

The RW spin machine to set the narrative that will support the desired outcome.
Fact checking will become a matter of historical record rather than current events.
Make it difficult to prove if any injures resulted from a struggle or a previous event.
The generally accepted story will take president over any truth reviled.
Because of 'jury contamination' any possible trial will need to be moved to a 'friendlily' environment.

Where have we seen this before?

Its up to a grand jury whether to do something or not, but that doesnt affect the story of what happened. getting little pieces here and there is only going to inflame more people.
Just tell the cops story and lets see what it IS. WAS he injured? What kind of injuries? Why did he shoot? Waiting on a grand jury doesn nothing to change those answers.

and dragging their feet is a great way to run out the clock until the media packs up and moves on to something else. The American public has a VERY short attention span and at this point even the Federal government has a vested interest in dropping this down the memory hole.
