Home Depot 2Q profit climbs 14 percent

By MICHELLE CHAPMAN AND ANNE D'INNOCENZIO

ATLANTA (AP) — Home Depot's fiscal second-quarter net income surged 14 percent thanks to a rebound in its spring selling season.

The nation's largest home improvement retailer also raised its annual profit guidance Tuesday.

Spring is the biggest season for home-improvement retailers, as homeowners and others work on their yards and gardens. While the season started off a bit cold and rainy, weather improved and shoppers headed out to stores to pick up supplies. In particular, purchases over $900 like appliances and water heaters, which account for 20 percent of total U.S. sales, rose 8 percent.

"These results support the view of a continued recovery in the U.S. home-improvement market," Frank Blake, Home Depot's CEO, told investors during its earnings call.

This company was founded by one of the most vile rightwing economic terrorists this country has ever seen.

The founder is the reason one of our only DECENT politicians career was ruined.

Eliot Spitzer was hated by Wall Street and many of our most corrupt industries like insurance.

I never shop at Home Depot, if I must I go to Lowe's, problem is they are probably just as bad.

The owner is one of the most vile people I have ever had the displeasure of learning about.

That said, as a measure of broader economic indicators, this is really good news.

Still, f*ck Home Depot.

We have done a lot of remodeling and redecorating over the past five years. We want to sell our house, and downsize.

There is a good local place. We get most of our materials there. Our contractors know and like the place. We get great service, too!
