PATNA, India (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - A 35-year-old woman in eastern India was dragged out of her home, beaten and forced to eat human faeces by a group of villagers who accused her of being a witch, police said on Wednesday.

Eleven people in Bihar state's Katihar district attacked the woman on Tuesday, while her husband was away, police said. She told police they accused her of causing the death of a 30-year-old villager who died from an illness last week.

Police said the woman, who is from a lower caste or "Dalit" community in Sakrail village, was slapped, punched and force-fed faeces.

"The villagers dragged the woman out of her house and made her consume human excreta, blaming her for the death of the man," Katihar sub-divisional police official Rakesh Kumar told Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone.

1. Why is this news? "Woman humiliated" is like every hour, every nation. Why point at India?

Maybe being outraged at other nations and their supervisor irons help us feel better about ourselves....I call racism on the article, no other purpose.

It is a story out of India, which has severe problem with terrorizing women.
Not that there are not other nations that have problem including our own.

So why bag on the story?

a nation that Washington and Wall Street have decided is more worthy of investment than the US. I don't mind being reminded about what we are getting for our money.

If you want to call something racist, point your finger at Washington/Wall Street partnership exploiting some of the worst places in the world to be a woman. And fuck those standard test scores from specially vetted students in India. Sick of hearing CEO apologists shit about the economic value of sending jobs to India.

Most dangerous places for women?

1 Afghanistan tops expert poll of dangers to women

2 Congo plagued by rape as weapon of war

3 Pakistan blighted by acid attacks and 'honour killings'

4 India cited for trafficking and sexual slavery

5 Somalia seen as having full gamut of risks

9. That response startled the hey out of me. I was completely unprepared to see it.

I still don't see how anyone could read it that way.

Everyone knows there is that kind of problem there, just as that problem exists in many other countries, unfortunately.

Sad.

10. So no one should report any news out of other countries because it happens here too?

Aug 2014

That makes no sense.

Would you rather this news not be reported, with everyone pretending it doesn't happen?

11. There's quite a little more involved in this story than ""Woman humiliated".

Your extreme "racism" accusation launched from outta nowhere caught me completely off guard. Absolutely stunned me.

We DO have profound ignorance, superstition, barbaric behavior here, no doubt about it. When hideous things happen in the US which actually make it to the news papers and are allowed to be reported to the public, we absolutely post them, too. Always have, always will. NO exceptions.

News stories probably should have references to countries the U.S. is not momentarily interested in attacking, exploiting, plundering, destroying, as well as the stories which are generated to stir hostility to other countries preparatory to military actions.

12. You republished a article, no accusation.Dissemination of this type of "news" hits certain buttons,

and I believe those buttons are being purposely pushed.

I wonder what story the Times of India posted about the father/daughter Purity Ball and pledges made to their daddies....right here in America.

Although that would not be media racism, that would be one nations media pointing out another nations' minorities' cultural creepiness.

13. There's so much difference between a spooky, perverse Purity Ball, with fathers far too involved
Sat Aug 16, 2014, 03:52 AM
Aug 2014

in their daughters' deeply private lives, and people actually forcing a lady to eat ####, along with the wild hate frenzy.

I would have leaped to post any story which was LBN about the Purity Balls, just as I leaped to post a story regarding Caucasian Mennonites in Bolivia who were preying upon the women of their compound at night, drugging and raping them, then going on trial, with follow-ups regarding the trial.

You seriously misunderstand the people you hope to attack.

"I" am not "me" on a comment thread and that everyone must know the "real me" is kind of not the reality.

Where there is rape, abuse and a brutal, oppressed, class based workforce, Wall Street can't be far behind.
